Richmond, Va. – Senior quarterback
Davis Cheek has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Football Offensive Player of the Week after guiding Elon to a 33-23 win at Maine Saturday. It is the fourth time that he has received the honor in his career.
Cheek was 29-of-37 passing for 332 yards and four total touchdowns in the victory Saturday. He threw three first-half touchdowns and added a one-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter. The senior led the Phoenix on three scoring drives of 11 plays or longer as Elon controlled the ball for nearly 38 minutes. It was Cheek's third 300+-yard passing performance of the season.
The victory was Elon's second CAA Football road win in as many weeks, following a 20-7 victory at then-No. 22 Richmond. The Phoenix improved to 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in CAA Football play.
Cheek led Elon on touchdown drives on the Phoenix's first two possessions of the game, marking the first time in 2021 that Elon did not trail in a contest.
Elon now has the week off before returning home to host New Hampshire Oct. 23 in a game scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
