BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Elon University men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw at Northeastern on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 16, in a Colonial Athletic Association match at Parsons Field.

Elon (6-5-2, 3-1-2 CAA) battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the opening half to score two unanswered goals that led to the eventual 2-2 draw against the Huskies (9-3-2, 3-1-1 CAA). The draw was the 11
th CAA point of the season for the Phoenix, keeping the maroon and gold near the top of the league standings.

The Rundown
The Huskies opened the scoring in the 22
nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. An errant pass in the Phoenix defensive third, led to Northeastern's Federico Tellez scoring his fifth goal of the season.

Northeastern doubled its lead in the 34
th minute on another Phoenix miscue. The Huskies' Ryan Massoud was able to beat Elon netminder
Cam Pelle to a ball outside the box then fired a ball to the uncovered net for his fifth score of the season and a 2-0 Northeastern lead.

Elon responded just before the end of the half in the 44
th minute.
Calle Edelstam played a ball at the top of the box before scoring his second goal of the season on a shot into the back left corner of the net. The freshman scored off assists from
Jack Dolk and
Mason Duval to help Elon cut its deficit to 2-1 going into halftime.

The Phoenix did not waste time to equalize the match at the start of the second stanza.
Jalen Weatherspoon collected his first goal of the year via assists from
Jack Edwards and
Kasper Lehm in the 47
th minute, tying the contest at two-all.

The Huskies however put pressure on the Phoenix defense in the final 20 minutes of regulation. Looking for the go-ahead score, Northeastern had six shots on goal in the final 17 minutes of regulation, but Pelle was able to corral each one to keep the match tied at 2-2 before the contest went into extra time.

Northeastern outshot the Phoenix 3-0 in the first overtime period, but was unable to find the back of the net, sending the game into a second overtime period.

Elon had its lone shot in the two overtime periods on an attempt from
Sam Bacon in the 100
th minute, but the ball sailed wide. The Huskies had two more shot attempts in the second extra session, but Elon was able to hold on for the 2-2 tie.

Notes
• This was the second draw in the Elon-Northeastern series, but the first since the two teams became CAA opponents in 2014. The Phoenix moved to 5-2-2 all-time over the Huskies.
• Northeastern won the shot battle, 27-10, over the Phoenix and also posted a commanding 13-1 advantage in corners.
• Lehm led the Phoenix with five shots in the match, but also added his team-best fifth assist of the season.
• Pelle had a career-best eight saves while coming in off the bench for the final 85 minutes of the match in goal. The eight saves are the most for a Phoenix goalkeeper since Nathan Dean had nine versus William & Mary in 2013.
