BOSTON, Mass.— Freshman
Kennedy Jones scored her first collegiate goal at Northeastern on Oct. 17 as Elon women's soccer defeated Northeastern for the second time in program history in overtime, 2-1.
THE RUNDOWN
-
Carson Jones registered her fourth goal of the season in the 12
th minute to give the Phoenix an early 1-0 lead.
Molly Mahoney and
Katie Lowe were given assists.
-Elon nearly doubled its score in the 38
th minute when
Makenzie DePriest-Kessler went for her second career goal, but her shot went just above the crossbar.
-The Huskies got on the board in the 44
th minute on their lone shot on target of the half to make the score 1-1.
-Just over a minute later,
Jessica Carrieri took the final shot on goal of the half, but it was saved to keep the score tied at one going into intermission.
-Despite the Huskies having a 4-0 advantage in shots on target, the score remained unchanged to send the match into overtime.
-Less than three minutes into the overtime period,
Kennedy Jones deflected a ball from sister
Carson Jones that found its way to the back of the net to end the match with a 2-1 win for the maroon and gold.
NOTES
-The Phoenix outshot Northeastern 13-10, including an 8-2 advantage in the first half.
-10 Elon players recorded a shot in the game.

-In goal,
McKenna Dalfonso (7-5-1) totaled four saves on the day. The goalkeeper has now posted at least four saves in three of her past four matches.
-
Carson Jones' goal was the first goal given up by the Huskies in over 300 minutes. Northeastern posted shutouts against Towson, James Madison and #6/#12 Hofstra prior to facing the Phoenix.
-Elon has now won back-to-back matches against the Huskies (2-4-2). The first-ever win took place in the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Championship Quarterfinals in Hempstead, N.Y. (2-1 OT). Carrieri scored the golden goal in the 88th minute.
-The victory was the Phoenix's first win at Northeastern in program history. The goals scored were also the first recorded by Elon when facing the Huskies in Boston.
-The maroon and gold now stands at 7-5-1 (2-2-1 CAA) on the season, while Northeastern falls to 6-7-1 (3-3-0 CAA).

The Phoenix will be back on the road on Thursday, Oct. 21 as it travels to William & Mary for a 7 p.m. matchup.
