WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— Elon women's soccer's
McKenna Dalfonso totaled a career-high eight saves against William & Mary on Oct. 21 as the Phoenix posted its second draw of the season against the Tribe, 0-0.
THE RUNDOWN
-Despite both teams combining for six shots on goal in the first half, both teams were scoreless heading into halftime.
-
Molly Mahoney fired the first shot on target in the 23
rd minute, but it was saved by William & Mary's Zoe Doughty.
-After three attempts by the Tribe,
Makenzie DePriest-Kessler took the final shot on goal of the half, which was also saved by Doughty.
-Despite four shots on goal from
Abby Fusca, DePriest-Kessler,
Katie Lowe and Mahoney, Elon's score remained unchanged to send the match into overtime.
-The Phoenix's final two shots of the night came in the first overtime period by
Beky Myers and
Isabelle Paradoski, but the attempts once again didn't make it past Doughty.
-William & Mary took one last shot on target in the 105
th minute, but Dalfonso made the point-blank save to end the match with a draw.
NOTES
-Dalfonso's (7-5-2) previous career-high in saves came in the 2020 CAA Championship Semifinals when the Phoenix defeated Hofstra 1-0 (7).
-Tonight's shutout marks the 12
th of Dalfonso's career. She now ranks seventh in program history.
-At the conference level, Dalfonso ranks second in the Colonial Athletic Association in shutouts (6) and fourth in save percentage (.778).
-DePriest-Kessler, Mahoney and Myers led the Phoenix in shots with two apiece.
-The Tribe outshot Elon 15-11, but each team had eight shots on target.
-With the tie, Elon stands at 7-5-2 (2-2-2 CAA).

The Phoenix will return to Rudd Field to host nationally-ranked Hofstra in its final regular-season home match on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m.
