ELON, N.C. – Camilo Ponce,
Chung-Han Tsai and
Joshua Miller each went undefeated in singles play over the weekend, as Elon University men's tennis rounded out a strong showing at the UNCG Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 17.
The Phoenix took home wins in 11 singles contests and five doubles matchups throughout the two-day event.
THE RUNDOWN
- Tsai opened the tournament with a tough 3-6, 6-0, 7-6(4) three-set win over UNCG's Zuckerman before beating Davidson's Solares in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) in his second match. On Sunday, Tsai followed up his strong performance with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over UNC Asheville's Bierbaum to finish the weekend with a perfect 3-0 mark in singles play.
- Ponce also finished with a perfect 3-0 record in singles play this weekend after defeating UNCA's Reid in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(3). In his other matches, Ponce took down UNCG's Wyatt (6-0, 6-0) and Davidson's Green (6-3, 6-2) respectively.
- Miller logged two wins, outlasting Davidson's Lovrich (7-6(5), 7-6(6)) and UNCG's Johansson (6-4, 4-6, 7-6(4)) to round out singles play 2-0.
- The tandem of Miller and
Ben Zipay led the charge for the Phoenix in doubles play, earning two victories over the weekend. The duo opened the tournament with a 6-3 win against UNCA's Serra and Serra, before taking down Davidson's Green and Lovrich 7-5.
- The combination of Ponce and Penagos also earned two doubles wins at the UNCG Invitational, taking down Davidson's Pinzon and Wang (6-4) and UNCG's Johns and Thecker (6-2) respectively.

Esteban Penagos picked up two wins during the tournament, defeating UNCA's Daosaengsawang (2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5)) and UNCG's and Johns (6-2, 6-3) respectively.

Ben Zipay rounded out this weekend's singles wins for the Phoenix, taking down UNCG's Gwynn 6-0, 7-6(6) .
- The duo of Tsai and
Nicholas Condos logged the final doubles win of the weekend for Elon, defeating Davidson's Singh and Kachkarov 6-2.

The Phoenix will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 22, when it travels to Cary, N.C. for the first day of ITA Carolina Regionals.
