RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced that the league's head coaches voted Elon sixth in the conference in its preseason poll on Oct. 27, 2021.
Brie Perpignan was also named preseason honorable mention.
"We are both grateful and excited about this upcoming season," said head coach
Charlotte Smith. "We have an incredible league of talented teams, all of which you have to respect night in and night out. We get to determine our outcome this season. Our sole focus is on getting better each day. We have players that will need to quickly adjust to new roles as we lost three seniors this past season. We look forward to the challenge and wish all the teams a prosperous and healthy season."
Elon earned 38 points in the poll. Delaware and Drexel tied for first with 77 points and five first-place votes, followed by James Madison (64), Towson (58) and Hofstra (47) to round out the top five. Elon, Charleston (33), William & Mary (29), UNCW (15) and Northeastern (12) made up the bottom half of the poll.
Perpignan started in all 15 games last season, averaging 28 minutes per contest. The guard finished the 2020-21 season tied for sixth in the CAA in assist/turnover ratio (1.4) in addition to tying for seventh in assists per game (3.2). She also led the Phoenix in points per game (9.9) and assists (48) while also tying
Kayla Liles for the team high in steals (22).
