RICHMOND, Va. – The Elon University men's soccer team had five members of its team named to All-Colonial Athletic Association teams as the league office announced its men's soccer postseason awards on Wednesday, Nov. 10.
Two members of the Phoenix backline, junior
Kasper Lehm and sophomore
Jannik Videbaek, were named to the All-CAA second team while senior striker
Jack Edwards received All-CAA third team laurels. Freshmen
Calle Edelstam and
Scott Vatne collected CAA All-Rookie team distinction. Elon's five All-CAA honors are the most for the program since 2017.
"These five players are well deserving of the recognition," said Elon head coach
Marc Reeves. "We are in a strong conference with nine teams so there are a lot of good players. Individual awards are the byproduct of team success and as the number three seed, I had hoped we might have had a couple more players make the teams. These guys have consistently performed at a high level and as we head into the CAA tournament, we will need our better players to perform at max levels."
Lehm receives his second All-CAA nod of his career after earning a spot on the All-Rookie in 2019. The Odense, Denmark, native ranks second on the team in points with eight and leads the team in assists with six. He was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 11 after helping the Phoenix to a 4-3 win over UNCW with his game-winning goal in overtime.
Videbaek leads the team in minutes played from his center back position with 1,564 while helping the maroon and gold backline to six shutouts, which is tied for third in the league. The sophomore earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 4 while also garnering honorable mention accolades on TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week.
Edwards leads the Phoenix in total points (11) and goals (five) from his forward position. The Oak Ridge, N.C., native has also scored three game-winners this season against Merrimack, Liberty and College of Charleston, which is tied for third on the conference.
Edelstam has come on strong for the Phoenix in the latter half of his rookie campaign. The Djursholm, Sweden, native has scored two of his three goals during CAA play and is tied for second on the team in that category while also being third on the squad in total points with seven.
A two-time CAA Rookie of the Week honoree, Vatne rounds out the Phoenix's All-CAA performers. The Klepp, Norway, native has started nine of the 11 games he has appeared in this season while contributing a pair of goals and a couple of assists in his freshman season. He had an assist and a goal in the Phoenix's 2-1 victory at William & Mary last Saturday, Nov. 6, to help Elon clinch its first berth to the CAA Tournament since 2017.
Elon travels to Hempstead, N.Y., for the semifinal round of the CAA Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 11, at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The third-seeded Phoenix will face No. 2 seed Northeastern at 7:30 p.m. with the contest being streamed on FloFC.
