RICHMOND, Va. – The Elon University women's basketball team improved to 3-0 on Nov. 18 as it recorded a 21-point victory over Richmond, 71-50.

"We are thrilled to come away with another road victory," said head coach
Charlotte Smith. "We were well balanced offensively tonight with four double-figure scorers. Our defense continues to get better each game and we are meeting our defensive goals. I am very proud of how we played tonight."
THE RUNDOWN
-Elon jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, with five of the points coming from
Ariana Nance. Richmond was quick to respond, however, as the Spiders went on a 7-2 run of their own to tie the game at nine through the first five minutes of the game.
-The teams went back and forth in the remaining time to make the score 18-17 in favor of the maroon and gold going into the second.
-With 4:03 on the clock, Nance ignited an 11-4 run to bring the Elon lead up to nine going into halftime (37-28).
-The Phoenix grew its lead to the double digits when Nance knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to make the score 45-34. After a Richmond three ball, the maroon and gold outscored the Spiders 12-4 to finish the third with a 16-point advantage (57-41).
-Elon held on to the momentum the rest of the way, outscoring Richmond 14-9 in the final 10 minutes of play to secure the win.

NOTES
-Four Elon players scored in the double digits,
Evonna McGill (18),
Kayla Liles (13),
Brie Perpignan (11) and Nance (11). McGill also paced the Phoenix in field goals with nine for a new career high.
-Perpignan finished the night just two rebounds shy of a triple-double, recording 11 points, a personal-best 10 assists and eight rebounds. The last Elon triple-double occurred on March 1, 2018 when Shay Burnett registered 13 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists against William & Mary.
-Perpignan's double-double is just the second of her career.
-Liles went 3-of-6 from beyond the arc to combine for six three pointers in the past two games.
-Nance delivered five field goals against the Spiders, tying her career high. She has now matched her career-high in back-to-back games.
-Smith's record now stands at 172-130, tying the program record for all-time wins. She joins Brenda Paul (172-225) at the top of the rankings. Paul was the head coach of the Phoenix from 1994-2008.
-Tonight's game was just the second ever between the two teams. The first meeting took place on Jan. 26, 1980. Elon won 101-60.
-Elon has now started out 3-0 in two of its past three seasons.
