Elon Women’s Cross Country Sweep CAA Cross Country Postseason Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – The Elon University women's cross country team swept the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country major awards as the league recognized the Phoenix's Maria Ahm (Athlete of the Year), Jette Beermann (Rookie of the Year) and head coach Kevin Jermyn (Coach of Year) in the league's postseason honors on Thursday, December 2.
 
This marks the second time in the past three seasons that the maroon and gold women has swept the CAA major postseason awards with Elon last achieving the feat in 2019.
 
Ahm led the way with her second consecutive CAA Athlete of the Year on the women's side as the junior claimed the league championship for the second straight season. The Holbæk, Denmark, was the fourth straight Phoenix female runner to be named the CAA Athlete of the Year, but became the first member in program history to win multiple conference individual titles. During the year, Ahm was twice named the league's Runner of the Week while also breaking her own school-record in the 5K at the Firetower Project meet as she won the race with a time of 16:49.2. Ahm also clocked the second-fastest time in school history in the 6K at the NCAA Pre-Nationals crossing the line with a time of 20:38.4.
 
Beermann became the fourth Elon runner to garner CAA Rookie of the Year accolades. The Rellingen, Germany, native was the top freshman finisher at the CAA Championships, finishing seventh overall and earning All-CAA honors after coming in with a time of 21:55.1. She also was the runner-up behind Ahm at the Firetower Project and raced the second-fastest 5K time in school history at 17:12.93.
 
Jermyn earns the CAA Women's Coach of the Year honor for the third straight year after leading the Phoenix women to its third consecutive CAA championship. Under his leadership, Elon had five runners earn All-CAA accolades including two out of the top-three finishers at the league meet while placing four overall in the top-10. He also guided the Phoenix to a pair of meet wins during the season and a ninth-place standing at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships.
