AT THE PLATE
Alex Iadisernia posted the only multi-hit outing of the day for the Phoenix (3-7), going 2-for-5 as he doubled, drove in a run and scored another.
Luke Coker hit his first home run as a Phoenix and
Willie Havens had the team's other four-bagger as he went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Reynolds brought in Elon's other run as he turned in a 1-for-4 day at the plate.
THE RUNDOWN
Elon opened the scoring with one run in the first. With two outs,
Anthony Galason singled through the left side, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and took third on a throwing error by the UNCG catcher. Reynolds then brought him home with a hit down the left-field line. The lead was short-lived though as UNCG took over with a three-run homer in the top of the second. The Spartans (9-2) then added another run in the third as a double down the left field line scored a runner from first. The maroon and gold responded with two runs in the home half of the frame as Iadisernia led off with a walk and Havens sent an 0-1 pitch over the wall in left.
UNCG made it a 5-3 game as sacrifice fly to center allowed the Spartan runner to tag up from third. With runners on the corners in the sixth, a single through the right side of the Elon defense gave the visitors a 6-3 advantage.
Jarrett Pico led off the bottom of the inning with a hit to left, then came around on an Iadisernia double to center to get the deficit back down to two runs at 6-4. However, the Spartans pulled away with an RBI single in the seventh, two more runs in the eighth, and a five-spot in the ninth. Down to Elon's final three outs,
Griffin Arnone reached with a one-out double to center and Coker then launched a two-run shot to right center. The spark proved to be too little too late though as UNCG recorded the final two outs.
NOTES
- Pico extended his hit streak to five games.
- Stonehouse has now reached safely in five straight games.
- Today's marked the most runs allowed since April 9, 2019 in a 15-7 loss to Campbell.
- Iadisernia hit 5-for-13 with a home run, three doubles and four RBIs in the series.
- Havens also had a good weekend, batting 4-for-9 with one long ball, one triple, two doubles, and four runs driven in.
