THE RUNDOWN
The Phoenix (11-15, 4-4 CAA) opened the scoring in the first game with a two-run top of the first. Haskin reached on a one-out single to right, then moved up to third on an Iadisernia double down the left-field line. The pair then touched home on Reynolds' ground-rule double to the left corner. After the Tribe (8-18, 5-6) knotted the score with one run in the fourth and another in the fifth, Elon jumped back ahead 4-2 with two runs in the sixth. Galason led off with a single to short and advanced to second on a W&M error. Reynolds then brought Galason home with a two-run blast to right center.
W&M answered with a three-spot in the seventh. With one away, a batter reached on an error and came around on a two-bagger dow the left-field line. Elon retired the next batter, but the Tribe manufactured another two runs on a deep fly to left. A solo homer in the eighth then made it 6-4 for the final tally.
The Tribe broke open the second game with six runs on five hits and an error in the first inning. Elon then got on the board in the second as
Garrett Stonehouse scored from first on a Spurlin double to center, but W&M produced another three runs on two hits for a 9-1 advantage. Cassella led off the top of the third with a triple to center and crossed the final 90 feet on a Cranston ground out to third. After Iadisernia singled to first and Galason singled through the left side, Cicci hit a three-run bomb off the top of the scoreboard in left field to trim the W&M lead to 9-5. However, the Tribe answered with another two runs in the home half of the frame to take an 11-5 lead.
Elon loaded the bases with one out in the sixth. W&M then elected to get the lead runner out at home as Cassella reached on a fielder's choice. However, Cranston connected for a two-out, two-RBI hit to right field. Back-to-back walks by Iadisernia and Galason then got the maroon and gold within striking distance at 11-8. The home team tacked on another run in the seventh as a single to right allowed a runner to score from second. In the eighth, Pico tagged up on a Galason sac fly to right for the final run of the game.
