ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team is set to host its second Colonial Athletic Association series of the season, welcoming UNCW to Hunt Softball Park for a three-game set this weekend, April 3-4. The Phoenix and the Seahawks kick off the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon followed by the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Series Breakdown
• In a series dating back to 1990 in Elon's fastpitch era, the Phoenix holds a 15-11 advantage all-time over its intrastate conference rival.
• Since becoming CAA foes back in 2015, Elon is 9-6 over UNCW and has defeated the Seahawks in five of the last seven contests.
• Both teams last played in Elon in 2019, with the Phoenix winning two out of three to take the series. The lone series loss that the Phoenix has had to the Seahawks came in 2017.
Last Time Out
• The Phoenix hosted James Madison in its CAA-opening series of the 2021 season last weekend, March 27-28.
• The Dukes took the opening game of the series, 2-0, but the Phoenix came back with a 5-4 win in the second game behind a pair of home runs from freshman
Gabi Schaal.
• Both teams played the rubber match on Sunday, March 28, with Elon jumping up with a 3-0 lead after the first two innings. The Dukes however came back with 10 unanswered runs to take the series with a 10-3 victory.
Quick Hits
• Offensively, Elon leads the CAA in total hits with 131 and is in the top three of the league in runs scored (93), RBI (84), triples (four) and home runs (20).
• For most of the season, Elon has had a lineup that features an underclassman in seven of its nine spots in the batting lineup. Junior
Rebecca Murray has been the only upperclassmen position player who has started at the same position all season at centerfield.
• Speaking of Murray, the Indian Trail, N.C., native leads the team with her .388 average while her 26 total hits are the best in the league. She also paces the league in doubles with six and is in the top-three in runs scored with 15.
• Elon's efforts in the circle are led by fifth-year player
Kenna Quinn, whose 62.0 total innings are the most in the CAA. The Boiling Springs, S.C., native is second in the league in wins with five and has a 3.61 ERA and 28 batters struck out.
Scouting UNCW
• The Seahawks are currently 6-13 on the season, but swept College of Charleston last weekend and currently leads the CAA South Division with its 3-0 ledger.
• UNCW is hitting .260 on the season and has three players in the regular lineup hitting .300 or better in Tayler Vitola (.431), Jada Santiago (.389) and Janel Gamache (.375). The trio has combined for 67 total hits with Santiago and Gamache driving in 34 runs between them.
• Four players for the Seahawks have pitched 14 or more innings for UNCW, led by Amberlyn Pearce who has 47.0. As a team, UNCW is third overall in the league in strikeouts with 67 overall.

Elon travels to College of Charleston for its first CAA road series of the season next weekend, April 10-11.
