HARRISONBURG, Va.— The Elon University women's lacrosse team came up short against nationally-ranked James Madison on April 25 (15-9), splitting the regular-season series against the Dukes (1-1). JMU entered the game ranked 25th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
THE RUNDOWN
-After the Phoenix took a 3-1 lead, the Dukes responded with a 6-1 run to make the halftime score 7-4.
-Elon managed to cut the JMU lead to two within the first eight minutes of the second half (8-6). The Dukes, however, maintained its lead the rest of the way, eventually growing its lead to a game-high six goals in the final minute of play to make the final score 15-9.
NOTES
-Both
Sara Bouwman and
Margaret Stephan posted hat tricks to lead the team in scoring. Bouwman also registered a pair of draw controls and an assist.
-In the draw circle,
Quinn Daly and
Julia Dalmass tied for the team high in draw controls (3), followed by Bouwman and
Gillian Curran (2).
-
Lyndsey Morhardt totaled two caused turnovers on the day, followed by Daly,
Kailee Follette,
Campbell Armstrong and
Kaitlyn Michaud with one apiece.
-For the third time in the past four games,
Paulina DiFatta (8-2) finished in the double digits in saves (10). The goalie also totaled a game-best four ground balls to match her season high.
-Elon falls to 8-2 (2-1 CAA), while JMU improves to 9-4 (3-1 CAA).
