Frankel Named 2020-21 CAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

RICHMOND, Va.—The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced on Wednesday, April 28 that Elon's Kyle Frankel has been named the 2020-21 CAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year presented by Primis.

"I'm so excited for Kyle to receive this prestigious honor," said head coach Michael Leonard. "Kyle has worked so hard both in the classroom and on the court. He truly represents what a student-athlete should strive to be."

Frankel has compiled a 3.66 grade point average while studying economics. After graduation, he plans to pursue his Master's in business analytics at Elon University.

Frankel has earned the ITA All-Academic Award the previous two seasons. He is also a six-time recipient of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award while he has made the Dean's list twice and the President's List four times.

A 2019 All-CAA second team selection and Most Outstanding Performer of the CAA Men's Tennis Championship, Frankel has posted a 13-1 regular-season singles record this season, including a 9-1 mark at the No. 1 slot. He is also 12-3 in doubles. He has been recognized for his performance at both the conference and national levels, earning CAA Player and Doubles Team of the Week honors in addition to being ranked No. 125 in Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I rankings in March.

In honor of his accomplishment, Frankel will receive a $1,000 stipend along with a crystal award.

Each of the CAA's 10 institutions had a nominee for the CAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year presented by Primis and will receive a crystal award. The CAA's Academic Affairs Committee then voted on the award.

Elon will next face Drexel in the quarterfinals of the CAA Championship in Williamsburg, Va. on Friday, April 30 at 3 p.m.
