Three Phoenix Recognized On CAA Football Preseason All-Conference Team

Richmond, Va. – Sophomore Tre'Von Jones was named to the 2021 CAA Football Preseason All-Conference Team as a punt returner, while senior quarterback Davis Cheek and junior defensive back Cole Coleman were named honorable mention. The CAA Football Preseason All-Conference Team was voted on by the head coaches and media relations representatives in the conference.

Jones was named a Phil Steele Freshman All-American in 2019 as a defensive back and he has proven to be dangerous in the return game as well. During the 2021 spring campaign he averaging 7.3 yards per punt return and 18.3 yards on nine kick returns. Over the course of two years as the team's primary punt returner, he has a career average of 7.0 yards per return, with a long of 21 yards.
 
Cheek returns for the fall season after missing the entire spring campaign due to injury. Despite that, he was CAA Football's Scholar-Athlete of the Year and has started 29 games during his career. In 2017, he was the CAA Football Offensive Rookie of the Year and was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, finishing fifth in the voting for National Freshman of the Year honors. He is 10th among all active quarterbacks in the FCS with 5,624 career passing yards and has added 34 TD passes at a 60 percent completion rate.
 
Coleman played in just two games during the spring campaign but was dominant during his limited time, picking up 17 tackles against Davidson and being named CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week. He started all 11 games as a sophomore in 2019 as well as eight as a freshman in 2018. He has 175 career tackles, 5.5 for loss, as well as an interception and a forced fumble.
 
Elon opens the 2021 season on Sept. 4 as the Phoenix hosts Wofford at 2:00 pm as part of graduation weekend on campus. Elon will also celebrate the 20th anniversary of Rhodes Stadium. Family Weekend takes place Sept. 25 when Elon hosts William & Mary, while Homecoming will be Nov. 6 against Villanova.
