Tony Trisciani has announced his captains for the 2021 fall football campaign. Elon Football opens fall camp this week in preparation for the 2021 fall football season. The teams captains will be identical to the spring season in senior quarterback
Davis Cheek, senior defensive lineman
Tristen Cox, junior linebacker
Devonte Chandler and graduate tight end
Donovan Williams.

"Davis, Tristen, Donovan and Devonte are great representatives of Elon University and of our football program," Trisciani said. "They are talented athletes who have the ability to elevate the level of play around them with their competitiveness and winning habits. Being a team captain is an honor and privilege that comes with great responsibility. Captains are stabilizing forces, players who give their all to the team, and aren't afraid to take a tough stance when it comes to maintaining the standards and expectations of our football program."
Cheek returns for the fall season after missing the entire spring campaign due to injury. Despite that, he was CAA Football's Scholar-Athlete of the Year and has started 29 games during his career. In 2017, he was the CAA Football Offensive Rookie of the Year and was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, finishing fifth in the voting for National Freshman of the Year honors. He is 10
th among all active quarterbacks in the FCS with 5,624 career passing yards and has added 34 TD passes at a 60 percent completion rate.
Cox was named Elon Football's Most Valuable Player after starting all six games in the spring at nose tackle. A four-year starter with 40 career starts under his belt, Cox has 102 career tackles and 10.0 tackles for loss. During the 2021 spring season, Cox had 12 tackles (five solo), including 1.0 for loss.
Chandler played and started four of the team's games during the spring season, recording 28 tackles, 2.0 for loss and a quarterback sack. That followed a sophomore season in which he tallied 38 tackles and 9.0 for loss in just seven games. He added 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He has 73 career tackles, 11.0 for loss, and 3.5 sacks to go with two forced fumbles.
A graduate transfer from UConn, Williams was a threat at tight end, catching 12 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown in four games during the spring. He had five catches and the game-winning TD against Davidson. Prior to his time at Elon, Williams played in 31 games for UConn, starting his career at quarterback before transitioning to tight end before the 2018 season. He was a team captain for the Huskies in 2019.
Elon opens the 2021 season on Sept. 4 as the Phoenix hosts Wofford at 2:00 pm as part of graduation weekend on campus. Elon will also celebrate the 20
