ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's tennis opened its fall season this weekend, Sept. 17-19, at the Duke Bonk Invitational at Cary Tennis Park.
The Phoenix was led by
Daniel Martin who picked up two singles wins and combined with
Nicholas Campbell to win their doubles flight over the weekend.

Daniel Martin started the tournament off strong, outlasting Joseph Wayand of N.C. State 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 in a three-set battle. Martin followed that up by defeating Liberty's Deji Thomas-Smith 7-6, 5-7, 7-6 to round out the tournament on Sunday.
- First-year
Esteban Penagos took down GWU's Chrisjan Van Wyk in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 in the C Draw of the tournament.
- In doubles play,
Nicholas Campbell combined with
Daniel Martin to take home the B Draw crown after defeating Duke's Vallabhaneni and Khan in the final. Campbell and Martin also picked up wins over VCU's Almeida and Voelzke (7-6) and Duke's J. Krug and C. Krug (6-3) along the way.
- The tandem of
Ben Zipay and
Esteban Penagos also picked up a doubles win over the weekend, defeating ETSU's Rengifo and Lobo 6-3 in a round-robin style portion of the bracket.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 24 – Sunday, Sept. 26, when it hosts the Elon Invitational at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Elon's campus.
