Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Asheville, 3-0

ASHEVILLE, N.C.-- The Elon University women's soccer team recorded its second shutout of the season on Sept. 2 as it posted a 3-0 victory over UNC Asheville.  
 
"We started off really well," said head coach Neil Payne. "It wasn't just in the attacking phases of the game, but we also defended really well. I'm really pleased and proud of the group for that. Overall, it was a really good performance."
 
THE RUNDOWN
-Isabelle Paradoski scored just over 11 minutes into the match for her first collegiate goal.
-Twelve minutes later, Kayla Hodges fired a shot in the high right corner to increase Elon's lead to two.
-With less than two minutes remaining in the half, Lydia Totten registered her first goal in the maroon and gold uniform. The Bulldogs were unable to score in the remaining time as Elon remained in the lead, 3-0, heading into intermission.
-Despite the Phoenix outshooting Asheville 11-2 in the second stanza, the score remained unchanged, resulting in the win for the Phoenix.

NOTES
-Elon outshot the Bulldogs 28-4 over the course of the match, including a 17-2 first half.
-Asheville did not have a shot on goal until the final minute of the second half.
-Kelly Degnan paced the Phoenix in both shots taken (7) and shots on goal (4), followed by Carson Jones with three shots on goal.
-In goal, McKenna Dalfonso (2-2) recorded her eighth shutout of her career.
-Tonight's scoring output is the best Elon had since Oct. 20, 2019 when the maroon and gold defeated James Madison 3-2.
-With the win, Elon improves to 2-2 on the season, while Asheville falls to 0-5. The maroon and gold also now holds a 13-3 all-time record against the Bulldogs.
 
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to take on NC State in a 7 p.m. matchup on Sunday, Sept. 5.
