ELON, N.C.-- Elon University women's basketball will take on College of Charleston inside Schar Center on Friday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.

COVERAGE

THE MATCHUP
-Elon is on a 13-game winning streak against the Cougars, leading the overall series against the Charleston 21-14.
-The maroon and gold won the last matchup between the two teams (85-57), which took place during the 2019-20 season on Feb. 9, 2020.

SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
-Elon (8-4, 0-2 CAA) fell to Towson (66-54) and James Madison (59-57) in its first pair of conference matchups on Jan. 7 and 9.
-Against the Tigers, Evonna McGill paced the Phoenix offense with 14 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field, while Ajia James totaled career highs in both points (13) and three pointers (3).
-Brie Perpignan recorded a team-high seven assists in addition to chipping in 11 points.
-In Elon's game against the Dukes, McGill once again led the maroon and gold scoring with a career-high 19 points, followed by Perpignan with 16. Perpignan also had four rebounds and a game-high four steals in addition to tying Ariana Nance for the team high in assists (3).
-Through 12 games, Perpignan enters the game tied for fifth in the country in assists per game (6.2).
-The maroon and gold is led by 11th-year head coach Charlotte Smith, the winningest coach in program history.

SCOUTING CHARLESTON
-Charleston comes into the weekend with an 8-5 (0-2 CAA) record.
-In their last game, the Courgars came up short by a two-point margin in overtime against Delaware on Jan. 9 (86-84). Tyler Collins paced the Cougars in scoring with 23 points in addition to recording six rebounds and five assists, while Anika McGarity
followed with 17 points and five threes.
-Latrice Perkins and Grace Abercrombie rounded out the double-digit scoring with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
-The Cougars were picked to finish seventh in the CAA preseason poll. Collins was named preseason All-CAA second team, while Arynn Eady was tabbed honorable mention.
-Charleston is led by Robin Harmony.

UP NEXT
The maroon and gold will travel to Northeastern and Hofstra on Jan. 21 and 23. Each contest is set for 6 p.m. and 1 p.m.
