Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Delaware

ELON, N.C.-- Elon women's basketball fell to Delaware 65-87 Sunday Jan. 30 in Schar Center.      
 
THE RUNDOWN
-Delaware jumped out early with a 13-2 run, giving them a 11-point lead with 5:23 in the first. Three pointers from Ajia James and Kayla Liles helped cut the lead, but the Phoenix still trailed the Blue Hens 11-18 heading into the second quarter.
-Elon opened the scoring in the second period with an 8-2 run to pull the game within one (19-20) with 7:59 remaining. Delaware answered with a 7-0 run and kept Elon at bay for the remainder of the half, extending its lead to 27-41 at halftime.
-Elon came into the second half hot, scoring five points in less than 30 seconds. However, Delaware outscored the maroon and gold 18-9 the rest of the period to grow its lead into the double digits, including a 6-0 run in the last 1:35 to extend their lead to 18 (41-59) going into the final frame.
-The Phoenix started the final quarter with an 8-5 run to come within 15 points of the Blue Hens (49-64), but Delaware held on the rest of contest to come away with the win.
 
NOTES
-Brie Perpignan finished with a season-high 25 points, shooting 8-of-18 from the field and a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. The guard also added six assists, four rebounds and three steals.
-Liles paced the Phoenix in rebounds (7) while also chipping in 18 points, two blocks and one steal.
-Peyton Carter and Bria Harmon combined for 14 points, five rebounds and one assist on the day.
-James totaled five points, three rebounds, one block and one steal over the course of the game.
-Maya Johnson and Tyja Traore added three blocks each. Johnson matched her career-high, while Traore set a new personal best.     
-With the loss, the Phoenix drops to 10-7 (2-5 CAA) on the season.
