RICHMOND, Va. – Senior forward
Mason Duval of the Elon University men's soccer team was named the Colonial Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday morning, Oct. 24.
Duval was instrumental in a pair of home wins for the Phoenix last week against North Carolina and College of Charleston. The George Town, Cayman Islands, native posted his third game-winning goal of the season in Elon's 3-0 victory against the Tar Heels – the Phoenix's first-ever win against its in-state rival. He later added his team-best seventh goal of the year in the maroon and gold's 3-2 win versus College of Charleston on Saturday, helping Elon clinch a top-two seed for the upcoming CAA tournament.
This is Duval's first career league weekly honor and the sixth Phoenix player to receive CAA weekly honors this season. He joins
Ryan Bilichuk,
Vemund Hole Vik,
Kasper Lehm,
Myson Darden and
Scott Vatne as honorees from the Phoenix this season.
CAA-leader Elon (10-3-2, 6-1-1 CAA) will travel to second place UNCW (6-3-5, 5-1-2 CAA) to close out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 29. A Phoenix victory or tie will give the maroon and gold its first outright CAA regular season title and its first conference championship of any kind since 2015.
