Phoenix Set For Midweek Battle With NC Central

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University volleyball team travels to Durham on Wednesday for a non-conference clash with NC Central. The match at McDougald-McLendon Arena will begin at 6 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon lost a pair of matches at Northeastern last weekend. The Phoenix fell in four sets on Saturday and lost a five-setter on Sunday. 
  • Freshman Clara LaRue registered 14 kills in Sunday's loss, one short of her career-high of 15. 
  • Leah Daniel totaled 17 kills and a season-best .382 hitting percentage in Saturday's match. 
  • Haylie Clark combined for 88 assists against the Huskies and posted her ninth double-double of the season in Sunday's loss. 
  • Senior Jordan Gower racked up 36 assists against the Huskies to pace the Phoenix. 
  • For the sixth time this season, Jenn Krzeminski had at least five blocks in a match, as the senior compiled five on Saturday. 
  • Sydney Love had 12 total blocks against Northeastern, the second most by any CAA player last weekend. 
  • Lily Emlong delivered a career-high eight blocks in Sunday's match to go along with eight kills. 
  • The Phoenix tallied 15 blocks in Sunday's match, the second most for the team in a match this season (16 against UNCG on Sept. 10). 
  • Elon committed a season-high 12 service errors in Sunday's loss. 
 
CHASING RECORDS
  • With 1,444 career kills, senior Leah Daniel is six away from tying Emily Hayes, Elon's Division I era leader in kills (1,450). She is also now 17 away from tying Velma Degree (1,461), Elon's all-time leader in kills. 
  • The Preseason CAA Player of the Year is fourth in the CAA in kills this season with 203 (13.5 per match). She also ranks No. 4 in the league in kills per set (3.34). 
PHOENIX FACTS
  • Freshman Clara LaRue has registered double-digit kills in four of Elon's last five matches and is third on the team in kills per set (2.07). LaRue has at least 40 attacks in two of the last three matches and had a career-best 44 attacks against Northeastern on Oct. 2. 
  • Haylie Clark has eclipsed 40 assists in five of Elon's last six matches. The senior ranks No. 3 in the CAA in assists (508) and No. 5 in assists per set (8.33). She also has nine double-doubles in her last 12 matches. 
  • Senior Jordan Gower ranks No. 31 in the NCAA and leads the CAA with 4.79 digs per set. She has totaled at least 20 digs four times and double-digit digs in every match this season. 
  • With 58 total blocks this season, Jenn Krzeminski is fourth in the conference in the category. The senior also leads the maroon and gold in hitting percentage this season (.298 on 238 total attacks). 
  • Sydney Love is second on the Phoenix in kills (136), attacks (396) and blocks (56). The sophomore ranks No. 5 in the conference in blocks. 
  • Lily Emlong is ninth in the CAA in blocks with 45, as the junior has compiled 24 in her last five matches (4.8 per match). 
  • Daniel's 21 aces this season rank No. 2 in the conference and lead the team. Clark and Alex VanWestrienen are tied for second on the team with 16 apiece. 
  • As a team, Elon leads the CAA in digs (916) and digs per set (15.02). The maroon and gold is also tied with Towson for the most total blocks in the conference (139).  
THE MATCHUP
  • Elon leads the all-time series against NC Central, 28-5.
  • The Phoenix has won the last 22 meetings against the Eagles and has lost just six total sets in that stretch. Central's last victory in the series came on Sept. 21, 1984. 
  • The maroon and gold won the last matchup between the teams in four sets on Oct. 16, 2019. 
  • Elon has won its last 11 matches at NC Central and is 12-2 all-time against the Eagles in Durham. 
SCOUTING NC CENTRAL
  • The Eagles enter the match with a 3-10 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. 
  • Central is coming off a straight-sets victory on Oct. 2 against South Carolina State. 
  • NC Central last played a home match on Sept. 13 against Campbell and has played just two matches at home this season. 
  • Kamren Harper (114) and Tori Wilson (108) rank No. 8 and No. 9 in the MEAC in kills. 
  • With 180 digs this season, Loren Johnson is fifth in the MEAC in the category. 
  • Vanila Pulu-Suliafu is averaging 6.48 assists per set, which ranks No. 4 in the MEAC. 
  • The Eagles are led by seventh-year head coach Jody Brown. 
UP NEXT
  • After a bye weekend, Elon returns to CAA play with a series against Towson on Oct. 15-16. The Tigers are 16-0 (6-0 CAA) and received 30 votes in this week's AVCA Coaches Poll. Both matches at Schar Center are scheduled for 2 p.m.
