Volleyball Heads East for Final CAA Road Series Against UNCW

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University volleyball team plays its final road series of the regular season this Saturday and Sunday when it travels to Wilmington for a pair of contests with UNCW. First serve on Saturday is scheduled for 4 p.m. and Sunday's match will begin at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon extended its Colonial Athletic Association winning streak to three matches with a pair of victories against Hampton last weekend. The Phoenix won in four sets on Saturday before sweeping the Pirates on Sunday.
  • Freshman Clara LaRue tallied 14 kills in Sunday's victory and finished with a career-best hitting percentage of .542. 
  • Leah Daniel posted double-digit kills in both matches. She hit at a season-best .417 clip on 24 attacks in Sunday's win. 
  • Sydney Love led the Phoenix with 11 kills in Saturday's victory. She has double-digit kills in four of the last six matches.
  • Haylie Clark registered 33 assists on both Saturday and Sunday. The senior averaged 9.4 assists per set across the weekend. 
  • Jordan Gower paced the maroon and gold in digs in both matches against the Pirates. She racked up 14 on Saturday and 13 on Sunday. 
  • Alex VanWestrienen hit a team-best three aces on Sunday. It was the senior's sixth match this season with multiple aces. 
  • Elon's 11 aces on Saturday were tied for the second most for the team in a match this season. The Phoenix hit 12 aces in a five-set win against Florida A&M on Sept. 9. 
  • By holding Hampton to just nine points in Saturday's fourth set, the Phoenix held an opponent to single-digit points in a frame for the first time this season. 
  • Elon's .446 hitting percentage in Sunday's opening set was the team's best in a set this season and just the second time the Phoenix has hit better than .400 in any set. 
  • The Phoenix's nine errors on Sunday were the fewest for the team in a match this season and the fewest since the team recorded just three against Hofstra on Nov. 6, 2021. 
  • The wins secured Elon's second CAA series sweep of the season, as the maroon and gold last won a pair of CAA matches on the same weekend against North Carolina A&T on Sept. 17-18. 
CAA TOURNAMENT TICKET PUNCHED
  • With its victory over Hampton on Oct. 30, Elon clinched a spot in the CAA Tournament.
  • Eight teams will participate in the tournament on Nov. 17-19. Defending champion Towson will host the event. 
  • All matches at the CAA Tournament will be streamed live on FloVolleyball. 
  • Elon is currently in a tie for fourth place in the CAA standings with College of Charleston. The third and seventh place teams in the standings are separated by just two matches. 
  • The Phoenix advanced to the CAA championship match for the first time in program history last season. Elon fell in a tight five battle against Towson. 
PHOENIX FACTS
  • Elon enters the weekend on a three-match winning streak and is tied for fourth with College of Charleston in the CAA standings with a 7-5 mark in league play. 
  • Leah Daniel ranks No. 4 in the CAA in both kills (297) and kills per set (3.38). Elon's all-time leader in kills has double-digit kills in 17 matches this season. She also leads the Phoenix with 27 aces. 
  • Haylie Clark is fourth in the conference with 722 assists and fifth in assists per set with 8.1. The senior has tallied double-digit assists in every match this season and has reached 30 assists in 14 of Elon's 22 matches. The Saint Cloud, Fla., native also has 11 double-doubles and has tallied at least five kills in five of the last matches,
  • Jordan Gower's 4.71 digs per set rank No. 42 in the NCAA and No. 1 in the CAA. The senior has double-digit digs in every appearance this season and has posted at least 20 digs six times. 
  • Senior Jenn Krzeminski ranks No. 5 in the league in total blocks (81) and No.6 in blocks per set (1.04). She is also in the top 10 in the CAA with a hitting percentage of .272. 
  • With 208 kills and 2.45 kills per set, Sydney Love is second on the team in both categories. The sophomore is also tied for 10th in the CAA in blocks per set (0.91). 
  • Freshmen outside hitters Clara LaRue (2.08) and Brooke Doherty (2.04) rank No. 3 and No. 4 on the team in kills per set, respectively. LaRue has registered double-digit kills five times this season, while Doherty has eclipsed 10 kills in three matches. 
  • As a team, Elon is second in the CAA in digs per set (15.25) and third in blocks per set (2.25). 
THE MATCHUP
  • The Seahawks hold a 24-17 edge in the all-time series between the teams. 
  • Elon has won the last four meetings, including a pair of straight set victories on Oct. 16-17, 2021, at Schar Center. 
  • The Phoenix is 1-11 all-time in matches played at UNCW, with the only win coming on Oct. 22, 1980. Elon is 11-34 in sets at Wilmington. 
  • Since the schools became conference rivals in 2014, the Seahawks hold a 10-6 advantage in the series. 
SCOUTING UNCW
  • UNCW holds a 4-17 overall record, which includes a 2-10 mark in conference matches. The Seahawks earned their second CAA road win of the season on Oct. 30 with a five-set victory against Delaware. 
  • Katie Lanz leads the Seahawks and ranks No. 10 in the CAA in kills per set (2.78). The senior has eclipsed double-digit kills 12 times this season.
  • With 6.61 assists per set, Annabelle Schall ranks No. 6 in the CAA in the category. The junior has double-digit assists in all but one match this season and posted a career-high 56 in UNCW's win against William & Mary on Sept. 17. She also has the third most aces in the conference with 32. 
  • Caitlyn Callahan's 0.99 blocks per set are the seventh most in the CAA. She posted a season high nine blocks in UNCW's last match against Delaware on Oct. 30. 
  • Jadyn Barry is pacing the Seahawks in digs per set with 2.73. 
  • UNCW is led by second-year head coach Dottie Hampton. 
UP NEXT
Elon rounds out its regular season with a pair of home matches against Stony Brook. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
