Elon, N.C. – Elon University senior defensive back
Marcus Hillman has been named the CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Phoenix to a 27-3 win over UAlbany Saturday.
With the win, Elon concluded an unbeaten home season for the first time since 1997, going 5-0 inside Rhodes Stadium. Hillman filled the stat sheet defensively and became Elon's FCS era leader in forced fumbles in the process.
He finished with eight tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble. His first sack of the afternoon came on a fourth down attempt in the first quarter. His other sack came in the second quarter on a strip/sack that resulted in a turnover. That forced fumble was the eighth of his career, becoming the sole record-holder in Elon's time as an FCS program (since 1999).
With the win, Elon improved to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in CAA Football play. The Phoenix will close the regular season Saturday at Hampton with kick time of 1:00 p.m.
