Elon, N.C. – Elon University head football coach
Tony Trisciani has announced the signing of 13 student-athletes during Wednesday's first day of the 2023 early signing period. The class of 13 high school student-athletes includes seven from the state of North Carolina and includes three wide receivers and three defensive backs.

At the offensive skill positions, Elon adds quarterback
Tanner Staton (Lexington, S.C. / Brookland-Cayce HS), wide receiver
Daniel Frederick (Pikeville, N.C. / Charles B. Aycock HS), wide receiver
Kenaz McMillian (Winston-Salem, N.C. / RJ Reynolds HS) and wide receiver
Zimere Winston (Raleigh, N.C. / South Garner HS). On the offensive line,
Evan Safreed (Woodbridge, Va. / Bishop Ireton HS) and
Brayden Walker (Culpeper, Va. / Eastern View) join the Phoenix, while multi-positional tight end/linebacker
Dylan Magazu (Newtown, Conn. / Newtown HS) committed as well. Defensively, Elon adds
Asher Cunningham (Asheville, N.C. / A.C. Reynolds HS) and local product
Will Rhodes (Burlington, N.C. / Williams HS) at linebacker. On the back end,
Tony Hart III (Baltimore, Md. / Dunbar HS),
Darren James-Hamilton (Charlotte, N.C. / Mallard Creek HS) and
Eric Jones (Gwinnett County, Ga. / Mountain View HS) add talent and depth as defensive backs. Kicker
Jack Berkowitz (Shelby, N.C. / Shelby HS) will bolster the Elon specialists.
The Elon football team went 8-4 in 2022 and 6-2 in CAA Football play, good for third place in the final league standings. The Phoenix ended the regular season ranked No. 12 in the country and earned a bid to the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2018. Elon defeated three ranked teams during the season, including handing national seed William & Mary its only regular season defeat. The Phoenix were a perfect 5-0 at home and ended 2022 with a six-game undefeated streak inside Rhodes Stadium, the longest such unbeaten streak in the stadium's history.
