Elon Defeats Presbyterian For Fourth Win In Five Matches

ELON, N.C. - Elon University women's tennis won its fourth match of the season on Sunday, Feb. 20, defeating Presbyterian, 6-1, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Julie Ball led the way for the Phoenix, taking down Beth Lacey in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. It was the fifth consecutive singles win for Ball and moved her to a team-best 5-2 this season.
- Sibel Tanik picked up her third win of the year, making quick work of Zeba Jamal 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 slot. With the win, Tanik now sits at 3-2 in No. 1 singles.
- Alison O'Dea clinched the match for Elon, defeating Valentina De Sousa 6-1, 6-4 in straight sets. O'Dea now has a 3-3 tally overall this season and a 1-1 mark in No. 5 singles.
- Victoria Saldh earned her first singles win of the year, finishing Lucianna Piedra 6-4, 6-1 in straight sets. It was the first match of the season in which Saldh has competed in the No. 3 position, as the senior moved to 1-0 in that spot.
- Olivia Archer rounded out the singles victories for the Phoenix, outlasting Alexa Wilson 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday. Archer has now won two of her last three singles matches and holds a 1-1 mark in No. 6 singles.
- Shauna Galvin and Sarah Allen each won a set against Madison Dennett in an exhibition match, with Galvin taking the set 6-0 and Allen earning the 6-4 decision.
- The combination of Archer and O'Dea got the ball rolling for the Phoenix in doubles play, defeating Lacey and Jamal 7-5 in the No. 3 slot. Archer and O'Dea now hold a 3-3 overall record this season after emerging with a victory in each of their last three doubles contests.
- Tanik and Reding clinched the doubles point for Elon on Court 1, taking down Alexa Wilson and Jessica Leeman 7-5 in a battle. The duo is now 3-3 this year with wins in three of their last four matches.
- Galvin and Allen also picked up a doubles win, taking down Dennett and De Sousa 6-0.

Elon returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 22, when it hosts North Carolina A&T in a 2:00 p.m. matchup at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
