PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Elon University women's basketball dropped a 72-57 decision at Drexel on Feb. 27.
THE RUNDOWN
-Drexel got going early as the Dragons went on a 10-1 run before the first media timeout (4:27).
Ajia James knocked down a three pointer with 4:05 on the clock that would ignite a 10-5 run to make the first quarter score 15-11.
-After the Dragons grew its lead to nine, Elon went on a 7-0 run to cut the Drexel lead to two (26-24). The Dragons responded, however, with an 8-0 run to hold a 10-point advantage at the half (34-24).
-Following James' third three pointer of the day, Drexel scored 11 unanswered points to go up by 22 (58-36).
Ariana Nance hit a shot at the buzzer to make the score 58-38 heading into the fourth period.
-Drexel maintained its double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest to get the win.
NOTES
-
Brie Perpignan paced the maroon and gold in scoring with 16 points, followed by James with 12. James' points were just one shy of her career high.
-Perpignan has now scored in the double digits in 19-consecutive games and recorded five or more assists in four straight games.
-James totaled three shots from deep to match her career high.
-Elon outrebounded Drexel 33-32, marking the first loss of the Phoenix when it had more boards than its opponent.
-The Phoenix's bench outscored the Dragons' bench 28-3.
-Elon is now 15-11 (7-9 CAA) on the season.
