ELON, N.C. – The Elon University softball team hosts North Carolina Central on Tuesday evening, March 22, at Hunt Softball Park. Opening pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.

GAME PROMOTION
• Tuesday's game will be Beach Theme Night at Hunt Softball Park. Fans will receive Elon beach towels and Hawaiian leis at the game.
 
SERIES BREAKDOWN
• The Phoenix leads the all-time series versus North Carolina Central, 15-0. All but one game of the series has come in Elon since the two teams began head-to-head play in 2011.
• Both teams played a three-game series last year with the Phoenix sweeping the Eagles at Hunt Softball Park. Elon outscored N.C. Central 25-8 in the three-game set.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• Elon won a three-game series versus longtime rival UNCG this past weekend, March 19-20. The Phoenix took the first two games of the series with a doubleheader sweep of the Spartans on a pair of walk-off wins on Saturday in Elon before UNCG took the finale on its home field on Sunday also via a walk-off.
Keagan Goldwait hit a walk-off three-run home run to help the Phoenix overcome a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh for an Elon 4-2 victory. Elon completed the twin bill sweep with a walk-off walk with the bases loaded to win 4-3 in game two. UNCG closed out the weekend with a 10-9 win in the finale also via a walk-off walk in Greensboro, N.C.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
• Elon is 15-5 at home this season with all its victories this year coming at the home confines at Hunt Softball Park.
• Offensively, Elon has outscored its opponents 81-60 this season at Hunt Softball Park. In the circle, the Phoenix pitching staff has a 2.39 ERA in its home contests including five shutouts.
• Including Tuesday's contest, Elon will have 14 home games remaining on its schedule for the 2022 season.
 
AROUND THE HORN
Elon is hitting .231 overall going into its Tuesday matchup with senior Rebecca Murray (.342) being the only player hitting .300 or better for the Phoenix in its regular lineup.
• Murray leads the CAA in stolen bases with 15 this season, matching her combined career total in her first three seasons.
• Murray also ranks in the top-10 of the CAA in batting average, on-base percentage (.422), hits (27), total bases (39) and walks (11).
• Elon is tied for the Colonial Athletic Association lead in triples with seven with five of those coming from Megan Grant, who is third in the nation with her five triples.
• The Phoenix leads the league in walks (85), ranks second in hits (152) and is third in runs scored (99), RBI (82) and home runs (15).
Gabi Schaal has been the main run producer for Elon with her team and CAA-best seven home runs and 27 RBI.
McKenzie Weber is second in the CAA in ERA at 1.35 in her 46.2 innings of action this season. As a team, the Phoenix has an ERA of 3.02, which would be its lowest since 2017.
Taylor Cherry is fifth in the CAA in total strikeouts with 53 and leads the Phoenix in innings pitched with 54.2. Another rookie, Isley Duggins, is holding batters to a league-low .194 batting average.
Kathy Bocock is in her 11th season at the helm of the Elon softball program. She has amassed 496 career victories with 259 of those coming at Elon.
 
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL
• The Eagles hold a 5-15 ledger on the year after winning its MEAC series versus South Carolina State this past weekend.
• Offensively, N.C. Central is hitting .209 on the year with Jaden Davis posting a team-best .304 average along with 17 hits. Sophomore Jaylah Barr has driven in a team-best 11 RBI with five homers on the year.
• Davis is also the Eagles' top arm in the circle as the freshman has pitched a team-high 46.1 innings with two of the team's five victories. She has also struck out 29 batters, second on the team behind fellow freshman Ashanti Eubanks' 30.
 
ON DECK
The Phoenix opens CAA play this weekend, March 26-27, hosting Hofstra at Hunt Softball Park. The series opens with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the finale set for a 1 p.m. start time on Sunday.
