Elon Outlasts ECU, 4-1, On Senior Day

ELON, N.C. - Elon University women's tennis outlasted East Carolina, 4-1, in a hard-fought match on Saturday, April 16, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The win marked the second in a row for the Phoenix and its 15th overall this season. Prior to the start of the match, Elon honored seniors and co-captains Victoria Saldh and Olivia Archer for their contributions to the program and community.

"I'm really proud of the team and the strength and resilience they showed today," head coach Elizabeth Anderson opened. "Sibel, Olivia and Shauna did an outstanding job getting the momentum going in singles, setting up Ali to clinch. Victoria and Lizette also competed incredibly hard and battled to the very end. This was a great win on senior day. I'm very thankful for all that our seniors have done and continue to do for our team."

HIGHLIGHTS
- Sibel Tanik got the ball rolling for the Phoenix, making quick work of Isabella Rivera Ortiz in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Tanik is now on a seven-match winning streak and sits at 12-5 overall in No. 1 singles play.
- Alison O'Dea clinched the match for Elon, battling back to defeat Ines Bachir 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in No. 4 singles. With the win, O'Dea now sits at 8-8 overall this season, 2-0 in No. 4 singles and has won back-to-back matches.
- Olivia Archer continued her strong play of late, taking down Anne Lou Champion 6-3, 6-0 to secure her fourth win in five contests. Archer picked up her team-leading 15th singles victory of the season in the match and now sits at 6-5 in the No. 5 position.
- Shauna Galvin rounded out the singles wins for the Phoenix, outlasting Laura Becker 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 6 spot. The win moved Galvin to 8-1 overall on the season.
- Victoria Saldh fought back to force a tiebreaking third set in No. 3 singles, winning set two over Alisha Hussain 7-6 after falling 1-6 in the opening set. Saldh also held a 1-0 lead in the decisive third set before the match went unfinished due to Elon clinching the victory.
- The tandem of Tanik and Reding led the way for Elon in doubles play, as the duo held a 5-4 lead over Bachir and Hussain in No. 1 singles prior to the match going unfinished due to ECU clinching the doubles point.

UP NEXT
Elon rounds out the regular season on Saturday, April 23, when it travels to Williamsburg, Va. for a 12 p.m. matchup with William & Mary.
