ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's soccer team begins its 2022 campaign this weekend with a pair of matches at Duke University as the Phoenix faces Milwaukee on Friday, Aug. 26, at 5 p.m. followed by a match against San Diego on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 12 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium.

The Matchups
• The Phoenix will meet Milwaukee for the first time on the soccer pitch on Friday.
• Elon and San Diego have played each other once prior to this season in 2016 which also came at the Duke hosted tournament, the John Rennie/Nike Classic. The Toreros won the match, 2-1.
Opening Stanza
• The Phoenix begins its sixth season under head coach
Marc Reeves. Through his previous 11 seasons as a head coach, Reeves has posted an overall record of 106-78-33.
• This is the eighth time out of the past nine seasons that Elon will open its season at a tournament at Duke going back to 2013. The Phoenix has an overall record of 9-3-3 versus opponents at the early-season tournament.
• The Phoenix is coming off a 9-8-2 ledger during the 2021 fall season and advanced to the CAA Championship final for the first time in school history.
• Elon returns 21 players and seven starters in 2022 including All-CAA performers
Kasper Lehm and
Jannik Videbaek. The maroon and gold also welcomes back a pair of CAA All-Rookie team players in
Calle Edelstam and
Scott Vatne.
• Both Lehm and Videbaek were selected to the 2022 Preseason All-CAA team. The Phoenix as a team was tabbed third by the league's head coaches in the 2022 CAA Preseason Poll.
• Three players will don the captain armband for the Phoenix this season. Videbaek joins returning captains
Jeppe Jordoson and
Marco Vesterholm as the team captains for the 2022 season.
• Elon welcomes eight newcomers to its roster for 2022 –

Scouting Milwaukee
• Members of the Horizon League, the Panthers are coming off a 9-8-1 record in 2021 and was 6-3-1 overall in conference play.
• Milwaukee was chosen to finish third in the 2022 Horizon League Preseason poll. The Panthers are coming off a loss in the semifinal round of the postseason tournament failing to make its third straight Horizon League championship appearance.
• The Panthers return Horizon League First Team All-Conference honoree Logan Farrington to the team in 2022. The sophomore striker led the team in scoring with 23 points with team-highs in goals (eight), assists (seven) and total shots (58).
Scouting San Diego
• San Diego is coming off a 2-15 overall record in 2021 while also going 1-6 overall in the West Coast Conference (WCC). The Toreros were selected to finish seventh in the 2022 WCC Preseason poll.
• Junior forward Nicklas Clausen was the leading scorer for San Diego, amounting for 18 total points on his seven goals and four assists. He also had 18 shots on target while earning second team All-WCC accolades.
• Brian Quinn enters his fifth season as the head coach of the Toreros men's soccer program.
Up Next
The Phoenix hosts Northeastern in its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 3, in a rematch its matchup against the Huskies from the CAA semifinals last fall. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Rudd Field.
