ELON, N.C. – The Elon University volleyball team travels west to Greensboro this weekend for its first two conference matches of the season against North Carolina A&T on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18. Both matches at Moore Gymnasium are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
- Elon co-hosted the Phoenix/Aggie Volley for Unity with North Carolina A&T last weekend and compiled a 1-1 record. The Phoenix lost its first match in five sets against Florida A&M on Sept. 9 before defeating UNCG in four sets on Sept. 10 for its first home victory of the season.
- Leah Daniel and Sydney Love were named to the All-Tournament Team. Daniel finished the tournament with 32 kills and 15 digs, while Love posted a season-high 15 kills in Elon's victory against UNCG.
- With her 16 kills against UNCG, Daniel passed Kam Terry (2015-18) for the sixth-most in program history with 1,352. Sydney Busa (2014-17) is next on the list with 1,361.
- The Phoenix registered 16 blocks against the Spartans, its most blocks in a match since the team had 16 against Davidson on Sept. 7, 2019. Lindsey Harris and Jenn Krzeminski both finished the match with seven total blocks.
- Sydney Daniels racked up a career-high 28 digs against UNCG in her second career start. The freshman finished the tournament with 50 digs.
PHOENIX FACTS
- Preseason CAA Player of the Year Leah Daniel ranks No. 4 in the conference in both kills (120) and kills per set (3.43). Daniel's 12 aces also lead the Phoenix, as the senior from Zionsville, Ind. hit a career-high six against Florida A&M on Sept. 9.
- Haylie Clark has recorded a double-double in five consecutive matches and six of Elon's last seven. Clark's 7.11 assists per set rank No. 6 in the CAA, and the senior is also tied for the second on the team with 81 digs.
- After tallying seven blocks against UNCG, Jenn Krzeminski is up to 28.0 on the season to lead the maroon and gold.
- Jordan Gower leads the Phoenix with 5.77 digs per set. She has three 20-dig performances this season.
- Sydney Love is second on the team this season in kills with 76 after posting 27 in Elon's two matches last weekend. Love also ranks No. 2 on Elon in blocks with 24.0.
- Elon's freshman class is off to a strong start this season. Brooke Doherty ranks No. 3 on the team with 52 kills, Sydney Daniels is averaging 2.85 digs per set and Lindsey Harris leads the maroon and gold in blocks per set (0.95),
- As a team, the Phoenix leads the CAA in digs (574) and ranks No. 23 in the country in digs per set (16.40).
- The Phoenix is also No. 3 in the CAA in total blocks (73.0) and No. 2 in blocks per set (2.09).
PRESEASON POLL & ALL-CAA TEAM
- Elon was selected to finish second in the 2022 CAA Preseason Poll and received three first-place votes. Defending champion Towson ranked first in the poll, earning seven of the 10 first-place votes.
- For the second straight year, Leah Daniel was named as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year. The Zionsville, Ind. native earned 2021 All-CAA First Team honors after ranking first in the CAA in kills (391), second in kills per set (3.87) and second in points per set (4.23) last season.
- Haylie Clark was selected to the Preseason All-CAA Team. The Saint Cloud, Fla. native was named the 2021 CAA Setter of the Year and after finishing second in the league last season in assists (955) and third in assists per set (9.46).
- Jenn Krzeminski was tabbed as an honorable mention to the Preseason All-CAA Team. The Furlong, Pa. native led the conference in hitting percentage (.389) and the team in blocks (114) last season.
THE MATCHUP
- Elon leads the all-time series against North Carolina A&T 31-9.
- The Phoenix has won the last 12 meetings between the teams, including the most recent matchup on Aug. 28, 2018, at Schar Center.
- The maroon and gold has not dropped a set against the Aggies since Nov. 10, 2009, and has won 30 consecutive sets in the series.
- Elon won the last bout between the schools in Greensboro on Aug. 30, 2016.
- This will be the first time the teams have faced each other as CAA conference opponents, as North Carolina A&T joined the CAA from the Big South prior to start of this season.
SCOUTING NORTH CAROLINA A&T
- North Carolina A&T enters conference play after recording a 4-6 record in its non-conference slate.
- The Aggies went 1-1 at last weekend's Phoenix/Aggie Volley for Unity after defeating NC Central and losing to Florida A&M.
- North Carolina A&T was tabbed to finish seventh in the CAA Preseason Poll.
- As a team, the Aggies lead the CAA in aces with 65. NC A&T also ranks No. 2 in the conference in blocks (76.0), No. 4 in kills (423) and No. 4 in assists (396).
- Naiya Sawtelle ranks No. 2 in the CAA in both kills (148) and kills per set (3.89). The sophomore also has a CAA-best 19 aces this season.
- Chiara Napoli and Addy Warfield split the setting duties for the Aggies. Napoli leads the team with 162 assists and Warfield has 156.
- With 34 total blocks, Mallory Porcher ranks No. 4 in the CAA. Maya Johnson is second on the team with 29.0.
- Morgan Allen's 127 digs are third most in the CAA this season.
- The Aggies are led by head coach Hal Clifton, who has been with the program since 2011.
