RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University women's golfer
Ashley Lafontaine has been named the CAA's Women's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 21.
Lafontaine earned her first college win at the third annual Elon Invitational, Elon's home tournament, at the Alamance Country Club in Burlington, N.C. The freshman from Ottawa, Canada, posted a 2-under par 211 through three rounds to win by one stroke. She opened the Invitational with a 4-over par 75 in the first round before carding consecutive 3-under rounds of 68 at Alamance Country Club. She birdied her 54th and final hole of the tournament to secure the victory. Over the course of the week, she made 10 birdies and 36 pars. Her performance helped Elon earn its second consecutive victory to begin the season, as the Phoenix won the team competition at the Elon Invitational by 25 shots with a 2-under total of 850.
The Elon women's golf team will split to compete in two tournaments on Monday and Tuesday. Half of the team will travel to Canton, Mass. to compete in the Boston College Intercollegiate while the other half will look to defend Elon's title at the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C.
