ELON, N.C. – Playing against her younger sister for the first time in a college match,
Sydney Love delivered a team-high 13 kills as the Elon University volleyball team defeated William & Mary in straight sets for its fourth straight win.
Sydney Love's sister Ryann is a freshman for William & Mary. The duo combined for 15 kills and six blocks. With the victory, the Phoenix is now 3-0 in CAA play. The loss dropped William & Mary's CAA record to 1-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a back-and-forth start to the match, an 8-5 run in the middle of the opening set fueled by three Sydney Love kills put Elon ahead 17-14. However, the Tribe battled back, winning eight of the next 10 points to take a 22-19 lead. Elon responded promptly with a 6-0 run of its own to set up a pair of set points. William & Mary saved them both, but the Phoenix won the final two points of the set to win it, 26-24.
- Elon started strong in the second set, as the Phoenix raced out to a 13-5 lead behind kills from Leah Daniel, Jenn Krzeminski, Sydney Love and Clara LaRue. The Phoenix led by at least six points for the remainder of the frame and a kill by Daniel secured a 25-18 win.
- Both Elon and William & Mary traded points throughout the third set, as neither team led by more than two points until a late 5-1 run put the Phoenix ahead 23-19. Kills by LaRue and Daniel closed out a 25-22 final set victory and secure a straight sets win for the Phoenix.
