Women’s Soccer Falls 2-0 At Hofstra

Hempstead, N.Y. – In its first of two straight games on Long Island, the Elon University women's soccer team (2-8-4) dropped a 2-0 decision at Hofstra (10-3-1) on Thursday night.

Hofstra netted a goal in the 24th minute to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Pride tacked on another goal on a second-half penalty kick and held on from there for the shutout victory.

How It Happened

  • Hofstra would need just 74 seconds to test McKenna Dalfonso. Wiktoria Fronc put the first shot on goal of the match against Dalfonso, but the keeper was equal to it.
  • Elon would gain momentum in the first half using a counterattack and registering a trio of shots in quick succession with shots from Jordan Green and Kennedy Jones. Ashlee Brehio was awarded a free kick just outside of the 18-yard box. The shot was turned back by the second layer of Hofstra's wall of defenders.
  • The Pride would strike in the 24th minute when Aimee Hodgson smashed the ball on a half-volley, outside of the boot shot that found the top right corner.
  • Elon's Jordan Green would put another shot in the mix, but it would be blocked by the Pride defense.
  • Dalfonso was tested again at the beginning of the second half but was equal to the shot at the center of the goal.
  • Hofstra would continue to pile on the pressure against the Phoenix with seven shots before the Phoenix would concede a penalty in the 79th minute.
  • Hodgson secured her second goal of the night on the penalty kick, the first penalty that the Phoenix defense has allowed this season.
  • That effort would be the final of the match, giving Elon their sixth conference loss of the season.
