Totten, Brehio Score In Loss To Stony Brook

Stony Brook, N.Y. – Both Lydia Totten and Ashlee Brehio found the back of the net in the second half for the Elon Phoenix (2-9-4) in their 4-2 loss to the Stony Brook Sea Wolves (6-5-5).
 
Totten scored a wonder goal to get the Phoenix back within a goal in the 54th minute. Ashlee Brehio added a second goal on a penalty kick in the 77th minute. Brehio, Totten, Grace Gelhaus all added three shots on goal for the Phoenix with Kennedy Jones collecting an assist in the match.
 
How It Happened
 
  • Stony Brook got things going early, forcing a pair of saves from Anna Hamner within six minutes of the start.
  • The Sea Wolves struck first in the 8th minute when Luciana Setteducate found the back of the net following a deflection.
  • Stony Brook would pile on the pressure by forcing three more saves within the next ten minutes before striking again in the 28th minute off the foot of Ashley Bell.
  • Lydia Totten would fire her first shot on target in the 34th minute on an effort from outside of the box that would be covered by the Sea Wolves' goaltender.
  • Elon would start fast in the second half when Lydia Totten found the back of the net on an outside of the box effort to bring the Phoenix within one.
  • The Sea Wolves would then fire two goals into the back in the net in quick succession to bring the lead up to three.
  • The Phoenix would muster chances from Rachel Buckle and Grace Gelhaus before Ashlee Brehio made a forward run that drew goalkeeper Ava King out of her net and was taken down in the box, drawing a penalty kick.
  • Brehio would slot home the penalty to break the lead to two.
  • The Phoenix would collect two more shots on goal from Brehio and Gelhaus but no goals would come for Elon, and the result would end in a 4-2 loss.

Notes and Stats
 
  • Elon now trails the all-time series with Stony Brook 0-1.  
  • Elon had 11 shots on target which is the second highest of the season. The two goals are also the second highest of the CAA season.
  • Lydia Totten secured her fifth goal of the season which leads the team.
  • Ashlee Brehio now leads the team in points with eleven. The penalty scored gave her four goals on the season which gives her ten goals in her career.
  • Brehio is now one point off her career high for points in a season. Her high of twelve points came during her freshman season.
  • Kennedy Jones picked up her second assist of the season in the match.
  • Anna Hamner claimed a career-high 10 saves against the Sea Wolves. This is the most saves by a Phoenix goaltender in a match since Kate Murphy recorded 11 saves against the Delaware Blue Hens in a 2-0 win.

  • Elon will return to the Carolinas for their final two matches of the season. The Phoenix will travel to Campbell to play the Camels on Thursday before the College of Charleston comes to Rudd Field for the final match of the regular season.
