Elon, N.C. – Elon University redshirt sophomore defensive back
Caleb Curtain has been named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Phoenix in tackles in a stunning 14-6 upset over No. 5/4 William & Mary Saturday.
Elon won its third straight game by keeping William & Mary out of the end zone, holding the Tribe to just a pair of second quarter field goals. Curtain had a career-high 11 tackles and added a sack in the victory. He had a tone-setting first quarter stop as William & Mary went for it on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line. He beat running back Malachi Imoh to the sideline and pushed him out of bounds just shy of the end zone, preserving a scoreless tie.
With the win, Elon improved to 3-2 on the season and moved into sole possession of first place in the CAA Football standings at 3-0. The Phoenix has won a stadium-record eight straight home games and has not allowed a touchdown in 15 quarters at Rhodes Stadium.
Elon returns to Rhodes Stadium Saturday to host No. 15 North Carolina Central in a regional non-conference match-up. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. and tickets are available at ElonTickets.com.
