ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's soccer team closes out its nonconference schedule on Wednesday, October 25, as the Phoenix (3-8-3) hosts Greensboro College (0-13-1) at Rudd Field. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

THE MATCHUP
• Wednesday will be the 13
th overall meeting versus Greensboro College for Elon, but the first during its Division I era. Both programs played in a series from 1972 to 1995 with Greensboro College being the first-ever opponent for Elon in its inaugural season in 1972.
• Elon holds a 9-3 advantage all-time against Greensboro College, but the Pride won the last meeting 2-0 back in 1995.
• Phoenix associate head coach Tony Falvino served as the head coach at Greensboro College for six seasons. Under his guidance at his alma mater, the Pride compiled an overall record of 75-29-4 and a conference record of 49-10-3 from 2015-2020.
LAST TIME OUT
• Elon earned three CAA points with its 2-0 win at College of Charleston last Saturday, Oct. 21. The victory gave the Phoenix eight points in the league standings putting the maroon and gold in position for a league tournament berth.
• After both teams went scoreless in the opening stanza, the Phoenix broke open the scoring with a pair of goals in a three-minute stretch in the second half.
Franc Gamiz Quer scored his second goal of the season on a corner kick in the 59
th minute while
Luca Erhardt added his first of the year in the 62
nd minute. Both goals were assisted by
Scott Vatne as Elon took the 2-0 win over the Cougars.
• With the win, the Phoenix extended its unbeaten streak against the Cougars to nine games in the regular season and pushed its win streak over College of Charleston to six.

Tomasz Wroblewski had six saves in the contest for the Phoenix while adding his second clean sheet of the year in between the posts.
OPENING STANZA
• The Phoenix is in its seventh season under head coach
Marc Reeves. Through his 13 seasons as a head coach, Reeves has posted an overall record of 120-91-37.
• Elon has eight points in the CAA standings and is in a tie with Charleston and Campbell for the sixth and final position for the league postseason tournament with one league game remaining. The Phoenix however holds the tiebreaker over both the Cougars and the Camels with its head-to-head wins,
• Stromsten and Vatne are tied for the team lead in points with nine on their three goals and three assists. Both players are also the only members of the squad to have a multi-assist game this year.
• Vatne is sixth in the CAA in shots per match at 2.29. Of Vatne's 32 shots this season, 16 have come on goal, which is eighth in the league.
• Erhardt became the eighth unique goal-scorer for the Phoenix this season. Outside of Erhardt, Stromsten and Vatne,
Jack Dolk, Calle Edlestam,
Myson Darden, Gamiz Quer and
Ben Rosenblatt are the other members of the squad who have scored for the Phoenix so far in 2023.
• As a team, Elon has attempted 138 shots while opponents have fired 173 shots against the Phoenix. The maroon and gold has 57 shots on target at a 41.3 percent clip.
• Wroblewski sits second in the CAA in saves per game at 4.62. The junior has 60 saves in his 13 games, also the second-most in the CAA. His 71.4 save percentage is in the top 10 in the league.
• Elon returns 20 players and six starters in 2023 including returning All-CAA performers in Gamiz Quer, Vatne and
Majaliwa Msabaha. The trio was recognized on the 2023 Preseason All-CAA team along with newcomer
Luca Erhardt.
• Three players will don the captain armband for the Phoenix this season. Gamiz Quer and Msabaha will join senior
Ben Rosenblatt as captains for the 2023 campaign.

• Erhardt arrives to the Phoenix as a transfer from James Madison. During his time with the Dukes, the Offenbach, Germany, native was a first team All-CAA member in his last played season in 2021 at JMU after scoring a team-high nine goals and an assist for 19 points while starting 17 games.
SCOUTING GREENSBORO COLLEGE
• Greensboro College is an NCAA Division III member that competes in the USA South Athletic Conference. The Pride comes into Wednesday night's match with a 0-13-1 ledger after its 1-1 draw against North Carolina Wesleyan College last Saturday.
• Offensively, the Pride has scored nine goals on the year while averaging eight shots per match. Midfielder Axel Garcia-Avila has a team-best two goals on the year with 11 of his 20 shots coming on goal.
• Cristian Del Cid Portillo has appeared in 13 games in goal for Greensboro College. The senior has a GAA of 2.08 with 64 saves and a 70.3 save percentage.
PRESEASON PRAISE
• Graduate student defender
Franc Gamiz Quer and junior midfielder
Scott Vatne have garnered some preseason honors ahead of the 2023 season. Gamiz Quer and Vatne were both selected to the Defender and Midfielder Watch List, respectively, by the United Soccer Coaches Association. The duo was also named to the 2023 Preseason All-CAA team.
• On Aug. 24, both players were added to the 2023 Hermann Trophy Watch List by the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC).
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will host UNCW for its regular-season finale on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at Rudd Field. Elon would need a win over the Seahawks to clinch a spot in the CAA tournament for the third straight year.
