Richmond, Va. – Seven members of the Elon University football team were recognized as part of the All-CAA teams, as announced by the league today.
Johncarlos Miller II,
Marvin Pearson and
Caleb Curtain were named First Team All-CAA, while
Jalen Hampton and
Jaidyn Denis were named Third Team All-CAA.
Chandler Brayboy and
Bo Sanders were recognized as Honorable Mention All-CAA.
Miller II set Elon's single game, single season and career receiving yards FCS records by a tight end in 2023. He had a career-high 101 receiving yards in the Phoenix's win at then-No. 5 Delaware and finished the year with 453 receiving yards, as well as 658 for his career. He ranks sixth in the nation for receiving yards per game by a tight end and caught touchdown passes in each of the final four games of the year. Over the course of his final five games of 2023, he had 16 receptions for 324 yards and he had three touchdown catches of longer than 50 yards.
Pearson was a dominant factor at defensive end for Elon and is tied for the most pressures in the country among all FCS players according to PFF. Also according to PFF, he has the most hurries in FCS football. Pearson led Elon with 11.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He had one of his best games against the toughest of competition, recording seven tackles, 3.0 for loss, and a sack against Wake Forest. He finished the season with 4.5 tackles for loss over the final two games
Curtain opened the season with a bang and maintained throughout the season. He had an interception return for a touchdown in the season opener against Wake Forest and led Elon with 80 tackles in 2023. He led Elon and ranked second in the CAA with four interceptions and was third in the CAA with two fumble recoveries. According to PFF, he is the No. 6 ranked coverage safety in FCS football. Curtain recorded double-digit tackle totals three times, including a career-best 12 against Villanova.
Hampton ranks second in the CAA with 880 rushing yards and third with 80.0 rushing yards per game. He twice rushed for more than 150 yards in a game in CAA play and had seven games this year of 74+ rushing yards. Five of his six touchdowns came during CAA play. PFF ranks Hampton No. 15 in FCS in yards after contact per rushing attempt.
Brayboy was explosive for the Phoenix, leading the team with 589 receiving yards. He ranks eighth in the country at 19.6 yards per reception and is also fourth in the CAA in kick returns at 26.9 yards per return. He had a career-best 121 receiving yards in the win at then-No. 5 Delaware and had 109 receiving yards in another top five win against then-No. 5 William & Mary.
Denis had 40 tackles on the season, including 27 solo. He posted a season-high 10 tackles at Gardner-Webb to go with two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Denis had three interceptions on the season and PFF ranks him as the top cornerback in FCS football and the No. 15 overall best defensive player in FCS.
Sanders finished the 2023 season with 79 tackles and at least three in all 11 games. He had two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown in the final game of the season against Hampton. His 10 tackles at Campbell were a season-high. Sanders also ranked No. 3 in the CAA in punt return average at 7.8 per return.
