Elon Falls To Towson On Sunday

TOWSON, Md. – The Elon University volleyball team fell at Towson in three sets on Sunday afternoon.

Elon 0, Towson 3 (14-25, 18-25, 15-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Towson took a strong 12-4 lead to start the opening set. The Phoenix responded with a 3-0 run thanks to three straight kills from Keira Kasten to get within five at 12-7. From there, the Tigers controlled the rest of the set, eventually winning set one 25-14.
  • The Tigers gained a quick 11-4 advantage early in the second set. Elon fought back going on a 3-1 run thanks to a pair of kills from Cameron Lanier and Lily Barker followed by a solo block from Caroline Berlekamp. With the score at 14-7, Elon won three straight points credited to a Towson service error, an ace from Jordan Gower and a block from Kyla Johnson and Sydney Love to get within four at 14-10. The Phoenix chipped away at the deficit throughout the frame but ultimately came up short as Towson took the second set 25-18.
  • It was a back-and-forth battle to start the third. Tied at 14-14, the Tigers went on an 11-1 run to win the set and match 25-15.
NOTES

FROM HEAD COACH MARY TENDLER
"We struggled again offensively, in large part to a very good Towson defense. Keira had a great match, we just didn't have enough help around her. Our short serves were very effective and allowed us opportunities to score.  We didn't get a lot of blocks, but we were able to get a lot of positive touches. We look forward to being at home next weekend and celebrating our senior class."

UP NEXT

  • Elon rounds out its regular season next weekend with a pair of home matches against Delaware. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Phoenix will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday.
