Elon Falls On The Road At Furman

Box Score GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Elon University women's basketball team (2-8) could not overcome a strong shooting Furman (7-5) offense as the Phoenix suffered a 73-47 setback on Thursday, Dec. 14, at Timmons Arena. 
 
Maraja Pass led the Phoenix for the fifth time this season scoring 12 points, her fourth time this season netting double-figures. Pass shot 55.6% (5-for-9) from the floor while going 100% (2-for-2) from the free-throw line. 

THE RUNDOWN
  • Elon got out to a quick 13-4 lead over the Paladins in the opening quarter. Furman then went on a 17-0 run to close the quarter taking a 21-13 lead ending the first quarter.
  • The Paladins outscored the Phoenix 16-4 in the second quarter to enter halftime with a 37-17 lead.  
  • Both teams traded baskets coming from the halftime break before Elon scored five straight points thanks to a jumper from Maraja Pass and a three-pointer from Ruby Willard to put the score at 48-26 in favor of Furman. The Paladins outscored the Phoenix 6-3 in the final four minutes of the third quarter to pull ahead 53-29 entering the final 10 minutes of play.
  • In the fourth quarter, Furman outscored Elon 20-18 to secure a 73-47 victory. 
NOTES
  • The Phoenix went 5-for-12 (41.7%) shooting from the floor in the first quarter along with tallying four blocks.
  • Maraja Pass once again led the Phoenix in scoring with 12 shooting 55.6% (5-for-9) from the floor. Pass also continues to lead the team in assists with four on the night and 33 this season. 
  • Pass, Iycez Adams, Ava Leroux and Ruby Willard all paced the team on the glass with four boards apiece. 
  • Elon shot 90.9% (10-for-11) from the free-throw line, their highest free-throw percentage as a team in a game so far this season.
  • Four Phoenix players recorded a block with Adams leading the way with three followed by Leroux and Maya Johnson with two. 
  • As a team, the Phoenix outnumbered the Paladins in steals (9-6) and blocked shots (8-3). 
UP NEXT
  • The Phoenix return home to Schar Center to face Marshall on Sunday, Dec. 17. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
