Curtain earned All-American status by the third organization Tuesday following second team All-American honors by the Associated Press and by Phil Steele. Patierno was named a freshman All-American for the third time also, as he earned the honor by FCS Football Central and Phil Steele.
Curtain led Elon with 80 tackles during the 2023 season, recording 6.5 for loss and 4.5 sacks. He also had a team-best four interceptions to go with six pass break-ups and two fumble recoveries. Curtain opened the season with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown against Wake Forest and had at least 10 tackles in three games. He had a career-best 12 stops at Villanova. He added interceptions against North Carolina A&T, Monmouth and Richmond as well as the Wake Forest game. He recovered fumbles in back-to-back contests against Villanova and Monmouth. Curtain had at least four tackles in every game in 2023.
Patierno was named a Freshman All-American as a linebacker after finishing the 2023 season with 68 tackles and posting at least three in every game. He added 5.0 tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries and scored a defensive touchdown in Elon's 51-14 win over Hampton to close the regular season. In Elon's 14-6 win over then-No. 5 William & Mary, Patierno recorded a career-high 11 tackles and 1.5 for loss. In the team's 33-27 win over another No. 5 ranked team in Delaware, he had six tackles, a TFL and a fourth quarter fumble recovery that sealed the victory.
Curtain is Elon's third All-American in the last two seasons by Stats Perform as both
Skyler Davis and
Marcus Hillman were regarded as first team All-Americans one season ago. He is the 15
th first or second team All-American by Stats Perform (and previously The Sports Network) in the program's 23-year FCS history. Four of those All-American nods have come in
Tony Trisciani's five years leading the Elon football program.
