Radford, Va. – The Elon men's basketball team (5-4) fell in a hard-fought contest with the Radford Highlanders (6-4), 82-72, Sunday afternoon. Both
TK Simpkins and
Kendall Campbell capped career days in the Commonwealth with Simpkins finishing with an Elon career-high 23 points.
Campbell finished with a career best 15 points and tying a career-high with seven boards, six of which came on the offensive end.
Zac Ervin joined Simpkins and Campbell in double figures with 12, all coming in the first half.
How It Happened
- Elon and Radford would trade buckets to open the scoring with TK Simpkins nailing Elon's first field goal from downtown to give the Phoenix an early 4-2 lead.
- Radford would answer a Deandre Smart layup with an 8-0 run spurred on by guard Bryan Antoine who netted the first four points of the run.
- Zac Ervin would then catch fire knocking down back-to-back triples to bring the score to within one.
- Trailing by seven, the Phoenix would answer with an 8-0 run of their own to pull ahead by a point. Six straight points from Zac Ervin on a transition three and a trio of free throws would cap the run.
- Elon would continue to attack the basket with LA Pratt and Simpkins combining for a pair of baskets to extend Elon's lead.
- Kendall Campbell became the story in the first half, scoring seven straight points at the line while collecting four offensive rebounds to push Elon's lead to three.
- The Highlanders capped off the half with a Truth Harris three-pointer as the clock expired to even the score at 39.
- The two teams would once again trade baskets to begin the half, with the scored knotted up at 44.
- Radford would attempt to pull away with an 8-0 run in just over one minute of play, but Elon hung around. Simpkins, Pratt and Sam Sherry would all find buckets in the paint to bring the lead down to three with just under ten minutes to play.
- The Highlanders would pull away with seven minutes to play, with a 6-0 run to push the lead to ten, their largest of the game to that point.
- The rest of the ballgame was played from the charity stripe with Radford knocking down late free throws to seal the victory.

- Elon falls to 5-4 on the season and is now 0-4 on the road.
- The Phoenix, once again, won the rebounding battle, 35-31 including 13 offensive boards.
- The bench unit for Elon continues to be productive, scoring 35 points as a unit and outscoring Radford's reserve by an even 20 points.
- The teams shot a combined 61 free throws with Elon attempting 31 of the 61.
- Elon followed up its 90-point in the paint effort against Warren Wilson with 34 points in the paint against the Highlanders.
- TK Simpkins put on a show with an Elon-best 23 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists.
- Kendall Campbell finished with the best game of his Elon career, with a stat line of 15 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
