BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team fought back from a 3-1 deficit on Tuesday against Campbell, winning the final three matches to earn a 4-3 comeback victory on the road.

Veljko Krstic clinched the victory for the Phoenix with a dramatic final-set win on Court 6.

THE RUNDOWN
- Elon lost a tight doubles point to fall behind 1-0. Ben Zipay improved to 2-0 on the season in doubles with a 6-2 victory on Court 3 alongside Nicholas Condos. However, the Camels won on Court 1, and the duo of Nicholas Campbell and Ahmed Hosni fell in a tiebreak on Court 2.
- Nicholas Campbell tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 2 spot. The win was Campbell's second of the season and his second straight.
- The Camels won the next two completed matches on Courts 4 and 5 to take a 3-1 lead. Hosni fell to Campbell's Benjamin Maes in a third set in the No. 4 spot and Condos dropped a competitive contest in the No. 5 spot against Leon Petko.
- Needing victories in the last three singles matches to win, Daniel Martin got things started for Elon with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory on Court 1 against Damien Nezar. The win was Martin's 11th in his last 13 singles contests and his first in a final set since April 14, 2022, against UNC Greensboro.
- Oskar Antinheimo knotted the match at 3-3 with a 6-4, 7-6 win against Gustavs Lukstins on Court 6. The freshman has now won three consecutive singles matches in the No. 6 spot and is tied with Martin for a team-high three victories this season.
- With the result of the match in the balance on Court 3, freshman Veljko Krstic battled to win in the third set against Campbell's Lukas Steffen to secure the comeback victory for the Phoenix. Krstic won the first set 6-3 but dropped a close tiebreak in the second. He responded in the final frame, winning it 6-4 to earn his second career singles win and clinch Elon's second consecutive victory.
- This was Elon's first victory by a 4-3 score since March 15, 2022, against Coastal Carolina and its first comeback win from 3-1 down since the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association championship match against UNC Wilmington.
- With the result, Elon improved to 2-2 on the season.
UP NEXT
- Elon travels to face No. 14 North Carolina on Sunday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The match will begin at 2 p.m.
- The Phoenix then returns home for three-straight matches at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, as the maroon and gold will face Longwood on Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. before a doubleheader against Shaw and Georgia State on Feb. 18.
