Women’s Tennis Beats Davidson, Extends Home Winning Streak

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's tennis team picked up its fourth straight win on Saturday when it defeated Davidson 6-1.

With the victory, the Phoenix improves to 9-3 on the season and 6-0 in home matches. Davidson falls to 4-8 with the loss. 
 
THE RUNDOWN
  • Reigning Colonial Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding posted Elon's first win of the day with a 6-0 result at No. 1 doubles. The duo is currently on a four-match winning streak and is 24-1 in total games over that stretch.
  • After Davidson won No. 3 doubles, Julie Ball and Madison Cordisco clinched the doubles point for the Phoenix with a comeback 6-3 win on Court 2. The pair is 3-1 on the season at the No. 2 spot. 
  • Olivia Archer extended her singles winning streak to six straight matches, as she won 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot against Davidson's Franny Shea. It was Archer's 64th career singles victory, as she is now just five away from surpassing Frida Jansaker's (2011-14) to become Elon's all-time Division I leader in singles wins. Archer's nine victories this season are the most on the team. 
  • Madison Cordisco delivered her third career singles win on Court 2 with a 6-1, 6-4 result against Emma Heiderscheit to make it 3-0 Elon. All of Cordisco's wins this season have come at the No. 2 spot. 
  • With a 6-3, 6-3 win against Josie Schaffer on Court 1, Sibel Tanik clinched the match for Elon. The senior is now 8-3 on the season playing No. 1 singles, with six of the victories coming in straight sets.
  • Lizette Reding and Helen Sarikulaya tacked on match tiebreak victories to bring the final score to 6-1. 
  • The win extended Elon's home-winning streak to six matches. Five of the wins have come at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. 
  • Elon is 48-18 in singles matches this season and holds a winning record at all six singles spots. 
  • The Phoenix has won the doubles point in four consecutive matches, its longest streak of the season. 
 
UP NEXT
Elon will conclude its season-long six match homestand on March 14 with a doubleheader against Morgan State and Shaw. The match against Shaw will start at 10 a.m. while the contest against Morgan State will begin at 2 p.m.
