Elon Beats Dartmouth 4-3 For Fourth Straight Win

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team notched its fourth consecutive victory on Tuesday when it defeated Dartmouth 4-3.

With the win, Elon improves to 9-5 on the season and 7-0 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. Dartmouth falls to 10-7 with the loss.
 
THE RUNDOWN
  • The Phoenix won its fourth consecutive doubles point with a pair of wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots. The streak of doubles points is Elon's longest of the season.
  • Oskar Antinheimo and Veljko Krstic delivered Elon's first win of the day with a 6-0 triumph on Court 2. The freshmen have now won back-to-back matches since losing their first as a duo. 
  • Playing at the No. 1 position, Nicholas Campbell and Daniel Martin clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win. The tandem is now 4-0 together this season with all the wins coming at No. 1. 
  • Antinheimo rolled at No. 5 singles against Dartmouth's Hikaru Takeda, winning 6-3, 6-0 to put the Phoenix up 2-0. The second set victory was his seventh by a 6-0 or 6-1 score this season, the most on the team. 
  • Krstic joined his doubles partner by posting a two-set victory at the No. 3 spot. The freshman won 6-4, 6-2 against Waleed Qadir to improve to 9-3 on the season and extend his winning streak to four matches.
  • After a Dartmouth win at the No. 4 position, Ben Zipay clinched the match for the Phoenix with a 7-5, 6-2 result on Court 6 against Alex Knox-Jones. The junior is now 7-1 on the season in singles and 13-3 in singles and doubles combined.
  • The Big Green won the final two singles contests in match tiebreaks. 
  • The win was Elon's second by a 4-3 score this season and the first since Feb. 7 against Campbell. 
  • Elon's 7-0 start at home is its best since it won its first nine home matches in 2020. The victory clinched Elon's 11th consecutive season with a winning record at home.
