Winston-Salem, N.C. – No. 2 Wake Forest (19-3) scored seven runs in the first and the Elon University baseball team (13-8) was never able to rally in a 20-0 midweek loss Tuesday night at David F. Couch Ballpark.
With the loss, Elon's longest win streak in five years, sitting at six games, was snapped. The Phoenix will enter a three-game series with Delaware Friday on a five-game CAA winning streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wake Forest used an error and three doubles to plate three quick runs and jump out to the early lead. The Demon Deacons followed with a pair of homers for a 7-0 lead after one inning.
- Wake Forest added to the lead in the second on a triple and a sacrifice fly.
- In the third inning, the Demon Deacons led off with a double, followed by a pair of walks and a sacrifice fly. An RBI groundout made it 10-0.
- Wake Forest added to the lead by scoring seven runs in the fifth and pushed across three more in the seventh.
NOTES AND STATS
- Adam Berry had a base hit and stole his third base of the year.
- With a ninth inning double, James Broderick extended his hit streak to five games.
- Liam Dabagian pitched 2/3 of an inning without allowing a run, lowering his ERA to 1.46 on the season.
- Ethan Haislip pitched a scoreless inning, striking out two batters. Ben Simon followed with a strikeout, allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
- Catcher Parker Haskin reached base twice on a pair of walks.
- Noah Carter maintained his perfect ERA with a scoreless eighth inning of work.
