No. 6 Stony Brook Defeats Elon

Elon, N.C. – The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team, ranked No. 6 in the country, built a 13-1 halftime lead and held on for a 17-5 defeat of Elon Saturday. Stony Brook improved to 6-2 on the season and 2-0 in CAA play, while Elon falls to 4-7 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Stony Brook scored three times in the first three minutes of play and took a 7-0 lead after one period.
  • The Seawolves built the lead to 12 before Elon freshman Anna Hackett scored to get the Phoenix on the board. Stony Brook took a 13-1 advantage into the break.
  • Elon outscored Stony Brook 2-1 in the third period on Hackett's second goal and the first of the contest from Cierra Hopson, assisted by Camryn Levin.
  • In the fourth, Hannah McCarthy and Kaley Ehnow scored goals for the final 17-5 score. Bridget Kelly assisted on McCarthy's goal.
 
NOTES AND STATS
  • Anna Hackett had a team-best two goals for Elon, but it snapped a program-record five consecutive games with at least three goals for the freshman.
  • Elon was a perfect 15-for-15 on clear attempts, while Stony Brook was only 11-of-15. Elon has now successfully cleared 21 consecutive opportunities over the course of the past two contests.
  • Stony Brook outshot Elon 35-16 and 30-13 on shots on goal.
  • Elon freshman goalie Caitlin Walsh tied her career-high with 13 saves. She has 34 over the past three games.
  • Julia Dalmass had a team-high and career-best four ground balls. She added four draw controls as well.

  • Elon plays at Towson Saturday at 12 p.m. for another conference game.
  • The Phoenix will not return home until hosting Hofstra April 15 at noon.
