Men’s Tennis Earns 4-2 Win Over Delaware

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team returned to the win column on Thursday, defeating Delaware 4-2 to remain unbeaten on the season at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Elon improves to 11-6 on the season with the victory while Delaware falls to 11-5 with the loss. 
 
THE RUNDOWN
  • Elon extended its streak of successful doubles points to seven with a pair of victories.
  • Nicholas Campbell and Daniel Martin picked up a 6-3 victory on Court 1 for Elon's first win of the day. The tandem is now 5-2 on the season at No. 1 doubles.
  • With a 6-3 win on Court 3, Nicholas Condos and Ben Zipay clinched the doubles point for the Phoenix. The pairing has accumulated a team-best nine wins this season and is on a three-match winning streak.
  • The reigning Colonial Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week Oskar Antinheimo and Veljko Krstic was ahead 5-2 on Court 2 before the match was abandoned. 
  • Martin continued to roll in singles, dropping just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 triumph against Delaware's James Wilkinson on Court 1. The win was Martin's 12th of the season and the ninth to come in straight sets.
  • Krstic matched Martin with a straight sets victory of his own on Court 3 against William Wibmer. The freshman is tied with Martin for a team-best 12 singles wins this season and is currently on a winning streak of seven matches, the longest for any Elon player in singles this season. 
  • The Blue Hens won the next two matches to finish in the Nos. 2 and 4 spots to make the score 3-2. 
  • Condos clinched a 4-2 victory for Elon with his first win since March 4 on Court 2. The senior beat Tobey Lock 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 for his fourth victory of the season. 
  • With the victory, Elon improved to 8-0 on the season at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Elon stays home to host William & Mary on Saturday. The match is currently scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
