Shea Sprague picked up just his second loss of the season in the outing.
Â
The Phoenix were led in the lineup by
Ryan Sprock who finished the day 2-for-3 with a walk and
Cole Reynolds who knocked in Elon's lone run of the day following an RBI single.
Â
Despite the loss, the Phoenix still hold the top spot in the CAA with an 8-2 conference record.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
- Shea Sprague got the start on the mound on Friday and went through the first four battres unharmed.
- Towson would use multiple extra-base hits and working counts in the second inning to put three runs on the board. Brian Heckelman got things started for the Tigers with a solo home run concluding a nine pitch at bat. Harper Sy would then double home two runs later in the inning to give Towson a three-run lead.
- Shea Sprague would settle in during his next three innings. The sophomore would retire seven straight batters and then retire the Tigers in order in the bottom of the fifth.
- Elon's offense would get going in the top of the sixth when Charlie Granatell would get things started with a base hit. Granatell would advance on a Luke Stephenson groundout then would come home on a deep Cole Reynolds single. Ryan Sprock would double on the next pitch, but the Phoenix couldn't bring another run home.
- Towson would answer in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run home run that just cleared the glove of Charlie Granatell to give the Tigers a four-run lead.
- Spencer Bauer would replace Shea Sprague and give up his first earned run of the year on a solo shot from Reyce Curnane.
- That home run would give Towson a five-run lead that they would never relinquish, and the final score stayed 6-1.
