Women’s Tennis Wins Saturday Doubleheader Against Hampton, Methodist

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's tennis team picked up two wins Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, defeating Hampton 5-2 and Methodist 7-0 to improve to 3-0 on its season-long six-match homestand.

"It was good for all our players to be able to play today," head coach Elizabeth Anderson said. "I think we had some good competition that's going to help us going forward." 
 
With the two victories, Elon is now 8-3 on the season. Hampton falls to 3-6 and Methodist to 1-3. 
 
THE RUNDOWN VS. HAMPTON
  • Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding posted Elon's first win of the day with a 6-0 result in No. 1 doubles. 
  • Miray Konar and Helen Sarikulaya clinched the doubles point for the Phoenix with a 6-1 victory in the No. 3 spot. The duo is 3-1 this season playing No. 3 doubles. 
  • Olivia Archer lost just one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph on Court 6 against Hampton's Laura Peralta. 
  • Not long after Archer's victory, Julie Ball locked up a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 5 spot against Lucia Fernandez. 
  • Freshman Madison Cordisco clinched the match for the Phoenix with a 6-0, 6-2 result on Court 2 against Diana Starodubtseva. It was Cordisco's first singles victory since Elon's match against Houston on Jan. 27, as the freshman had made just two appearances since then. 
  • Lizette Reding posted Elon's final singles victory against the Pirates, as she won 6-2, 6-2 against Sofia Sokolova on Court 3. The junior is now 5-3 on the season in singles. 
 
THE RUNDOWN VS. METHODIST
  • Julie Ball and Madison Cordisco won their second match of the season together as a team, posting a 6-0 victory in No. 2 doubles. 
  • Making her season debut, Shauna Galvin clinched the doubles point for the Phoenix alongside Olivia Archer, as the two seniors won by a 6-0 score on Court 3. Galvin and Archer are the sixth Elon doubles combination to register a victory this season. 
  • Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding won their second doubles contest of the day with a 6-1 result in the No. 1 spot.
  • Ball delivered her second singles win of the day on Court 3, defeating Valeria Matute of Methodist 6-1, 6-0. Ball is now 7-3 on the season in singles and has won a team-high 10 sets by a score of 6-2 or better. 
  • Archer won 6-0, 6-1 against Veva Willocks of Methodist to put Elon up 3-0. Archer's two singles wins Saturday bring her career total up to 63, as the senior is now just five away from tying Frida Jansaker's (2011-14) Division I Elon record with 68. 
  • Playing her first dual singles match since the final of 2022 Colonial Athletic Association Championship, Galvin clinched the match for the Phoenix with a 6-0, 6-0 result against Hannah Higgins on Court 6. 
  • Tanik bounced back after a single loss against Hampton, winning 6-1, 6-2 on Court 1 against Toni Laney. 
  • Miray Konar improved to 6-0 on the season in singles, as the sophomore won 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot against Methodist's Kamdyn Balko.
  • Helen Sarikulaya delivered Elon's 10th and final singles win of the day, defeating Megan Kidd 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 position. The win was the freshman's seventh of the season, as she is now 6-0 playing Nos. 2 and 3 singles. 
  • Ball and Archer both went 2-0 in singles against Hampton and Methodist, while the team of Tanik and Reding posted a 2-0 mark in doubles,
  • Elon finished the day with a 10-2 record in singles and a 5-0 ledger in completed doubles matches.
  • On the season, Elon holds a 43-17 record in singles, good for a 72% winning percentage. The Phoenix has a win percentage of at least 70% at all six singles positions this season. 
  • The Phoenix is 5-0 this season at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
